Q: Why are my older New Blue FX not showing up in Movie Studio Platinum 12 & 13?

Answer: The NewBlueFx Effects and Transitions from all older versions of Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10/11 Production Suite are only 32bit plugins, which means they won't work in 64 bit versions of Vegas Pro or Movie Studio.

All older versions of Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum were only 32bit programs.

The release of Movie Studio Platinum 12 Suite is the first time ever it has been written as a 64 bit program. The same applies to Movie Studio 13 Suite, released 2014.

When you buy this new version, you actually get an identical 32 bit version as well. This version is for people who may still be on an older 32 bit computer running Windows 7 (32 bit) or Vista (32 bit).

If you install the 32 bit version of Movie Studio Platinum 12 as well as the 64 bit version on the same computer you have Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10/11 and NewBlueFx already installed on, you will see all the old stuff magically appear in the Video Fx tab and Transitions tab of the 32 bit version only.

If you have any NewBlueFx from older versions that you really love and would like to use in the faster 64 bit version Movie Studio Platinum 12 or Vegas Pro 12, then you will need to buy one of the full retail packs direct from NewBlueFx.com

The full retail packs of Transitions and Effects are quite extensive compared to the sample packs that come with Movie Studio Platinum 12 Suite. They are also not cheap.

The best time to buy any NewBlueFx product is when they have one of their regular Sales and Promotions on. If you subscribe to the NewBlueFx Newsletter you will be notified of when promotions are on.

    My copy of Movie Studio 12 has the NewBlueSonyVegasMSPPS12Setup14.exe file. Your article says the disk comes with a 32-bit and 64-bit versions. After installing NewBlue, I get an error saying that titler.dll can't be found. The same error is reported (by Movie Studio) for Red Giant Magic Bullet Quick Looks. Should I just uninstall, and install the versions on my Movie Studio v10 disk?

      Firstly, if you have older versions of Movie Studio, it is quite OK to keep them installed on the same computer. It will not effect V12.
      You can also keep any New Blue Fx from older versions installed.
      If you used the Auto Installer to install Movie Studio Platinum 12 Suite, I think it will only install either the 32 bit or 64 bit version of the program. It scans your computer to see if it is a 32 or 64 bit computer, and installs the relevant version. Do you know if your computer is 32 or 64 bit ?
      If you have the 64 bit version installed and would like the 32 bit as well, so you can use your older NB FX, just download the latest version direct from Sony. Movie Studio Platinum 12 is about 1/3 the way down this page [url]http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/updates/vegasfamily[/url] You will have to use the drop down link to find 32 bit version.
      I have also seen the same titler.dll error appear on my computer in the past. I cannot remember how I fixed it, but I think I just un-installed it, re-booted and then re-installed it.
      [B]Before you do any of this[/B], I would like you to do a program reset. This [I]may[/I] clear the error without having to do any of the above. A program reset will clear the cache which holds info about New Blue Fx and Titler.
      Do this:
      Turn Movie Studio/Vegas Off.
      Hold down CONTROL and SHIFT keys at the same time AND ALSO AT THE SAME TIME double click program icon to Boot program.
      Window will pop up.
      Select Delete Cache and Yes.
      This will restore program to Factory Default Settings.

      Let me know how you go.

        I use Windows 7 up-to-date on a 32-bit machine.

        The Movie Studio Platinum Suite is v12.0 build 1183 (the latest).

        The cache delete sequence didn't help but thanks for telling me about it. (I sometimes wonder where you get all this arcane knowledge.)

        I uninstalled the two plugins, then reinstalled.

        I only have one NewBlue installation executable, so I assume it's correct. After installation, I have a Video FX entry for "NewBlue VideoFX for Sony Vegas MSPPS with entries that seem to work. I have a NewBlue entry for NewBlue Titler EX OpenFX which reports missing titler.dll.

        The Magic Bullet QuikLooks Video FX entry (default) brings-up a dialog window with two tabs: Pan/Crop (which seems to work), and Magic Bullet QuickLooks. I have a button that says I can "Apply Look" but there are no Looks.

        I've searched the 'net but I can't find any entries for this problem.

            In case that link disappears, the instructions there are:

            The instructions included below are for systems with 32-bit or 64-bit Windows Vista & Windows 7 systems (but not Windows XP). These instructions should help you to get our products working on your system.

            1. Please disable any virus protection software before installing your Red Giant product.

            2. Right-Click on the Red Giant installer.exe and select Properties.

            3. Click on the Compatibility tab.

            4. Check the box labeled Run this program in compatibility mode for. Leave the default choice of Windows XP (Service Pack 2) in the pulldown menu. Click Apply, then OK.

            5. Right-click on the Red Giant installer.exe and select Run as administrator.

            (Troubleshooting: Install first in XP compatibility, then normally — i.e. not in XP compatibility — if the first option doesn't work. One mode may work better than the other depending upon your system setup.)

            6. If prompted, click Run in the warning dialog, and then install as normal.

            7. After installation, Right-click on your host application launch icon and select Run as administrator. Running in this mode may be required to re-serialize the product (if necessary) and to use our plug-ins.

            (Troubleshooting: Open your host application first in Run as Administrator, then normally — i.e. not Run as Administrator — if the first option doesn't work. One mode may work better than the other depending upon your system setup.)

            Unfortunately, this didn't solve the NewBlue problem.

                  Thanks for taking time to help me.

                  NewBlue software is apparently tied-into one's graphic card. The person at NewBlue responding to my support request, Edward, replied very quickly. After trying various installers, he asked for my graphics card brand and model, and it's driver version. With that, he sent me two installers (one complete, the other changed some of the first installer's files). They work.

                  So, the problem I presented you with turns-out to be a graphics card issue.
