Derek - In your tutorial video "How to Render Video for DVD/Blu-ray with Menus using Sony Movie Studio Platinum"
At 6:30 in, you show that you should move the video file from its import location, up to 'root' and then drag it back to view screen.

If you are adding multiple menus and then multiple video files ..... should you also do this dragging of video files up to 'root' for all sub level videos .. no matter how many levels down ?

Only asking as also watched your "How to create DVD menus - part1/part2" ... and you don't move any of the files to 'root' when you created that DVD ?

Using DVD architect is new to me ... so want to understand what is best practise, it may well be better to have all videos in one location with links .... so keen to know.

Yes you should import all your videos into the root directory first.
Then if you have multiple Menu pages, all you have to do is drag each video onto the Menu screen you want to use. The program will automatically create links for you.

The other tutorials you watched are much older videos, before I learnt the insiders trick of importing to the root directory. Importing to the root directory gives you greater control of each video.

Hi Derek,

Reading the above messages - I wonder if you would kind enough to explicitly explain why placing the videos in a root folder is advantageous - and what are the problems in leaving them placed further down the file tree?
Thank you,
Peter

When you import a video into the Root Directory of a DVD, it gives you more options in the Properties window located in top right hand corner.
If the DVD project is quite complex with many different sub-menu screens and different playback options, you will have more control over "directing the traffic".
If you don't import into the Root Directory, you may find some options grayed out in the Menu Button Properties.

I learnt this trick a long time ago, back when Sony Software use to do regular monthly webinars.
