Solved Problem with 1920x800p video compression for DVD Architect

Question 1-
I have a problem.I´m trying to compress a mp4 movie extracted from a MKV on Sony Vegas.
It´s 1920x800p and 2 hours long.It have the overal bitrate of 3 912 Kbps and maximum bitrate of 25.0Mbps.Overal bitrate mode is variable.Frame rate mode is constant with a frame rate of 23.976.I´m using the calculator recomended bitrates with a safe margin exactly as the tutorial explains (minimum 2504,average 3304 and max 6688)but after the rendering the video lags like crasy.I have noted that with very high bitrates this not happen.I read the troubleshooting section and couldn´t find any solution. Why the calculator settings aren´t working?

Question 2-
I have the same movie in 720x480p.Is necessary to render it on Vegas or i can import it directly into DVDArquitect?

One more thing...i recorded a 1920x800 video(2h long) on a DVD(720x480) with Convertoxdvd and it worked perfectly.
I dont know why i´m having so many problems wit DVDArquitect.
Any idea?

Thanks.

Hi DH, welcome to the forums.

I'm not sure I can provide a solution, but will offer some information and hopefully that will help, as well as, others may contribute.

I reversed your question order.....

From my experience, DVD Architect is a very capable DVD/Bluray authoring tool, but not good at file conversions. It will render a video file, however it works best if a DVD Architect compliant file is used, and then it doesn't need to re-render the file. DVD Architect usually will take longer to re-render a file and eats a lot of computer resources to do so. My best results have been when I provide it with a compliant rendered file from Movie Studio or Vegas Pro using the MainConcept MPEG-2 render format and using the appropriate Template (either DVD Architect or Bluray) that closest matches the Project Settings and source video.

I think it would be best to render your 720x480p file in Vegas Pro (see above), because DVD Architect is setup to receive the DVD Architect format render in the appropriate frame rate. The DVD standard (NTSC) will accept 29.970 interlaced, or 24p with 3:2 pulldown (specified as '23.976 2-3 pulldown', in template frame rate). When you use the appropriate template, the rendered file will be accepted by DVD Architect 'as is' and will not re-render the file and should make for a smooth DVD disc authoring and burning experience.

Here I'm a bit confused as to your workflow and your end results. First I will assume you are using 'Mark's Bitrate Calculator' that Derek recommends.

Your video frame size is 2.40:1 aspect ratio (1920x800). This is not a Bluray or DVD standard, so that could be part of the problem. I'm also confused where the mp4 file comes from, is that your source file, or do you have an MKV source that you rendered to mp4 using Vegas Pro? Are you attempting to produce a Bluray disc or DVD disc in DVD Architect, or perhaps both?

I think the best way to handle the 1920x800 is to place it in a 1920x1080 project. By default, your 1920x800 video should appear with black bars top and bottom (letterbox). Then render to either a DVD Architect compliant file, such as 'MainConcept MPEG-2' output format, using the 'DVD Architect 24p NTSC Widescreen video stream' template (if you want a DVD disc)........or, 'MainConcept MPEG-2' output format, using the 'Blu-ray 1920x1080-24p Mbps video stream' template (if you want a Bluray Disc).

If you have a DVD Architect compliant file, whether you are producing a DVD or Bluray, the Bitrate Calculator should perform well.

I hope some of this is helpful.

NOTE: The recommended best way to render from Vegas Pro to DVD Architect is as I describe above using the 'MainConcept MPEG-2' output format. However, unlike rendering to an .mp4 video file which includes audio, the 'MainConcept MPEG-2' render will only include video. You should make a second render of your project for the audio. This render should go in the same folder as the video file.

If you render for Bluray, use the 'Sony Wave64' audio output format, and name the file exactly the same as your video file render (with the exception of the file extension. The video file extension will be '.m2v', and the audio file extension should be '.w64').

If you render for DVD, use the 'Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro' output format, and name the file exactly the same as your video file render (with the exception of the file extension. The video file extension will be '.mpg', and the audio file extension should be '.ac3').

In DVD Architect, when you 'Insert Media' (the video file), it will automatically insert the audio file, of the same name as the video inserted, if it has been placed in the same folder as the video file.
Best Regards......George

I already solved my problem.
I used a new movie video file, but this time in 720x480 with no problems.
Thank you for the answer.

If it´s not too much a trouble , I have another question. It´s about the background audio on the DVD menu.
I already have some experience with the DVD Arquitect and i know the configurations, but no matter what i do,
my background audio don´t play after i create the DVD.On the preview it works fine with the loop and everything.
But after the creation of the DVD it disappeared.

Here the background audio data:

Complete name : C:\Users\Renato\Desktop\007\The Spý Who Love Me\Carly Simon - Nobody Does It Better.ac3
Format : AC-3
Format/Info : Audio Coding 3
File size : 2.43 MiB
Duration : 2mn 39s
Overall bit rate mode : Constant
Overall bit rate : 128 Kbps

Audio
Format : AC-3
Format/Info : Audio Coding 3
Mode extension : CM (complete main)
Format settings, Endianness : Big
Duration : 2mn 39s
Bit rate mode : Constant
Bit rate : 128 Kbps
Channel(s) : 2 channels
Channel positions : Front: L R
Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz
Frame rate : 31.250 fps (1536 spf)
Compression mode : Lossy
Stream size : 2.43 MiB (100%)

Here the DVD Arquitect Menu Page Properties:
Reduce Interlace Flicker - off
Start script - none
Menu Lenght - Specify
Lenght - 00:02:39,392
Loop point - 00:00:00,000
End Action - Loop

Again...on the preview, the background audio works fine(loop included) but after the rendering,no sound.
I´ve already tried with many other sound configurations and formats with no result.
Sorry for the bad english.
Thanks again!

Hi Dirty Harry

Are you using DVD Architect Studio or DVD Architect Pro ?

Make sure you have the latest build version installed for whichever program you are using.
DVD Architect Studio = 186
DVD Architect Pro = 237

Open DVD Architect and go to Help/About DVD Architect, to find which version you are using.
Go to Help/Sony on the Web/Latest Updates, to download newer version if required.

Also go to Menu Page Properties (top right corner) and select Remote Buttons.
Make sure all remote control button controls are activated.

If you need further help with this, we need to see a screen shot of your DVD Architect project, so that we can see how the project is set up.

Regards
Derek.

It worked!
Turned "On" all remote buttons and it worked perfectly!
I was really angry with this little problem.
Man...they should put this critical detail on the manual.I lost many hours just trying
to get the damn background audio!
You save me,my friend.
Thanks!
