Solved Bluring objects

I must be quite naive about this, but why is there a need to blur license plates on vehicles in videos? I can understand blurring faces at times but what could possible happen by allowing your license plate to be visible?

Looks like answers are all over the place and mainly based on 'What If' scenarios. Apparently it's more of a CYA for the Movie Producers and TV Network Producers
