Hi Derek,

Thank you once again from this pom for your help. Come across a problem thats new to me

I have a project in Movie Studio Platinum 17 which has 5.1 surround sound Audio. I want to render it for bluray and here is the issue

When using the MAKE MOVIE crib [as mentioned before], I do not get the option to render to bluray with menus?..Is it me, or is it MSP17?

I can render it if I do the straight 2.0 audio BUT not 5.1
As i said before, Simple, idiot proof help if you dont mind. The .vf file is attached

File Attachment:

File Name: KissZurich.vf
File Size:25 KB

Thanks again
Paul the Pom

Hi Paul

Unfortunately, that function pathway no longer works in Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 17. It's a long complicated story and I can't remember all the details now...
Short story = A change in Windows 10 caused a new bug with 5.1 Surround Sound audio tracks and Vegas Movie Studio Platinum has been retired, which means no new versions with bug fixes will ever be released.
On top of that, Dolby increased their licensing fees dramatically for software venders to use their advanced encoders, which meant that almost all software companies have dropped support for advanced Dolby (AC-3) encoding.

Solution
All is not lost. You will have to render your video and audio streams manually and use Sony Wave64 to create a 5.1 Surround Sound audio track.

1. Rendering video track
Go to Project / Render As
There are a couple of different Formats you can choose from.
Each of these formats has pre-made Templates for Blu-ray you can select from as well. Just make sure to select the Frame Rate that matches your video & project properties.
Sony AVC
Mainconcept MPEG-2

Before you begin your render, make sure to set the Output Folder Location correctly.

2. Rendering audio track
Go to Project / Render As
Select Sony Wave64 and 48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, 5.1, PCM
Make this file has the same name as video file and same folder location as video!

Once these files have been rendered, you can close VMSP17.
Then open DVD Architect.
Go to File / Properties and make it is set to Blu-ray, using the correct Frame Rate and Audio type.
It should look like this:

3. The rest is up to you now...

Regards
Derek

Hi Derek

Followed your instructions and i was ok...

When i tried to insert the audio track into both DVDA6 and 7, It came up as the w64 file was not the correct file type
Video Render was m2v
Audio Render was as described above

Anything I can do please?

Hi Paul

It looks like we will have to open Pandora's box to fix this problem !!!
Strap yourself in for this one.

I forgot to explain one important fact about manually creating video and audio files for DVDA.
You only have to import the Video file into DVDA.
When you render the Video and Audio files separately, and give them the same name and place them in the same folder, DVDA will automatically import the audio file for you. That's how it is meant to work.

However...
I will admit that I did not test the new workflow I told you to use. It should have worked, but does not for some reason.
It looks like DVDA will only accept 5.1 Audio using Dolby AC-3 audio, however Movie Studio Platinum 17 can no longer output this format.
All is not lost.
I just did some new tests and have found a way to make it work - I promise I am telling you the truth this time - what I am about to explain is working on my computer.

Here is the new workflow:
1. Delete any audio files you have already rendered.

2. Your video file is absolutely OK, so we can still use that. For my tests, I rendered to MPEG-2 for Blu-ray.

3. To make sure this works for you, I recommend rendering your Audio file to Wave (Microsoft) this time - this is exactly what I used!
After you render this new 5.1 Surround Sound.wav audio file, we are going to convert it to 5.1 AC-3 using a free video conversion program.
Make sure this new audio file uses the identical name as your video file and is saved into the same folder as your video.

4. Download and install Any Video Converter free version. I have been using this program for more than 10 years and can vouch 100% for it. It's safe to use!
www.any-video-converter.com/en6/for_video_free/
After you press the download button, be patient, because it can take a few seconds before it starts downloading. If nothing happens after 30 seconds, press 2nd download button.

5. Boot up Any Video Converter. The first time you turn it on, there will be some arrows you need to click on, to get rid of them.
Before you do anything, set the Output Folder Location to a place that makes sense to you.
Press the COG next to question mark in top right corner.
In the General tab, set the Output Folder - it may already be set to a location that makes sense to you. If so, just leave it where it is.

6. Press Add or Drag Files
Navigate to your Movie Studio Platinum 17 projects folder and select the .wav audio file you rendered.

7.1 Select the drop down box in top right corner
7.2 Select Music icon at bottom of list
7.3 Select AC3 audio

8. In the bottom right corner, are the advanced encoding settings.

8.1 In the Basic Settings, make sure Quality is set to High.

8.2 Now press Audio Options at very bottom.
Set Audio Bit Rate to what your would like. For 5.1 Surround Sound, I would normally use 384 or 512.

8.3 This is the most important setting of all !!!
Select Audio Channels and set to 6.

9.1 Press Convert Now at the top.
You can close this program once the file has been created.
You now have a 5.1 Dolby AC-3 Surround Sound audio file, that DVDA will accept.

9.2 Move this new file into the same folder your video file lives in.
You can also delete the original .wav audio file version, because you won't need that now.
Your folder should look something like this now:

10. Now open up DVD Architect
I'll go over all the steps, just so everything is crystal clear.

A tip, just in case you don't know this.
Go to Options / Preferences / Preview
Make sure Aspect Ratio is set to 16:9

Go to File / New
Set to:
Disc = Blu-ray Disc
Video Format =  MPEG-2 if your rendered to MPEG-2 or AVC if you rendered to MP4.
Make sure to select 1920x1080 and use the same Frame Rate your video was rendered to. In my experiment, I used a video with 24fps.
Audio Format = AC-3 5.1 Surround

11. Remember, you only have to import the Video file - DVDA will find the Audio file for you.
The best way to import your videos into DVDA, is to right-click Untitled and select Insert Media.
Navigate to your Movie Studio projects folder and select the video.

12. Now drag your video onto the Menu screen or wherever you want to put it.

13. Now we are at the lucky last test stage!
Press the Preview button in top menu.
Click on thumbnail and video should start playing. If everything is OK, you will be hearing the audio and can proceed with the rest of your project.

Now that I have discovered this new fix, I'll have to make a public tutorial for it.
Less and less people are making discs now, so it's becoming a dying art.

All the best.

Hi Derek,Thanks for the new workflow which i completely understood BUTI only have this in my render as... [See attachment]

There is No wave settings at all..That is all thats there. I do not know how i got this [as you may remember, things have to be simple as i have memory issues]..I do not have the long list of options and i do not know how to get that back.

I am close to abandoning the idea of 5.1 render but it would be a waste of a great KISS concert!

Any Simple help to get me back to where i need to be would be appreciated

You have accidentally turned Filters ON.
Press Filters ON and deselect anything that has a check mark.
