Sound Forge Pro 11.0 and Sony Vegas Pro 13 Problem was created by BobH

Hi all, hoping someone may be able to help. I purchased a copy of Sound Forge Pro 11.0 when I upgraded from Sony Movie Studio to Sony Vegas Pro. This works fine when using Sony Vegas Pro 12. I can right click an audio file in the timeline and open it, or a copy, in Sound Forge Pro 11.0 Recently I have purchase Sony Vegas Pro 13 but I get an error message "The specified audio editor can not be opened", when I right click an audio clip and try and open this. The path reference is the same for both VP 12 and VP 13. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks

Hi Bob

If you have already opened the same file in Vegas Pro 12 and sent to Sound Forge Pro 11, there will be a .WAV file sitting in your computer that was auto generated. Sometimes when you try to open the same file again, this causes an error like you see.

Make sure to always use File / Save As before you open a file in Sound Forge, from inside of Vegas Pro 13 and create a new project folder and new project name.

Does it work now ?

Another thing you can try is to set Sound Forge to Run As the Administrator.
Right-click the Sound Forge program icon on Desktop, select Properties and go to Compatibility.
Select Run this program as an administrator.
When you open an audio file inside of Vegas Pro with Sound Forge, it will auto run as admin and give full admin control.

Personally I have always had problems on and off with Sound Forge, when trying to link with Vegas.
I have no idea what causes this. Admin works for me.

Derek

Hi Bob,

I like to use Sound Forge as well from within Vegas Pro. Upgraded my Version 12 Suite to the Pro 13 during the Magix offer over the summer, but continue to use Sound Forge Pro 11 from Vegas Pro 12 (there was not an update to Sound Forge). Our Doctor Zen gave you some great tips, that I actually use as well concerning Sound Forge. Another thing you can make sure of is that if you like to do the "round-tripping" in Vegas Pro and Sound Forge, is make sure in your Audio Preferences for Vegas, you have Sound Forge set. I've attached a screen shot of my settings.

Hope this helps.

Hello again and thank you for your replies. I will try out some of the suggestions shortly.

Just an update on Sound Forge Pro 11. I have icons for Vegas Pro 12, Vegas Pro 13 and Sound Forge Pro 11 on the taskbar on my Windows 10 pc. When I click on VP12 I get the User Account Control come up, 'Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device', and when I click Yes VP12 launches fine. Then while editing I can right click on an audio file to 'open a copy in Audio Editor' and SF Pro 11 will launch fine for me. When I click on VP13 I do not get the User Account Control and VP13 launches fine. However, when I right click an audio even and choose 'Open Copy in Sound Forge' I get the message 'Registration of Sound Forge Pro 11.0 requires elevated privileges' etc. When I click Next the User Account Control comes up but when I click Yes nothing happens. However, If I right click the VP13 icon on the taskbar, right click Vegas Pro 13.0 (64-bit)and choose 'Run as Administrator', the User Account Control comes up. This time if I click Yes VP13 launches fine and I can right click an audio file on the timeline, select' Open Copy in Sound Forge' and it opens fine. Finally, If I click the icon for SF Pro 11 on the taskbar, I get the 'Registration of Sound Forge Pro 11.0 requires el3evated privileges', I click next, the User Account Control appears, I click Yes and nothing happens. Just as with VP13, if I right click the taskbar icon, right click sound Forge Pro 11.0, select' Run as Administrator', the User Account Control surfaces, I click Yes and SF Pro 11 launches fine.
So I can run all the programs by some means so all is fine, but why do they launch in different ways? It would help if there was some consistency here for all the programs so any suggestions about this inconsistency would be most welcome.
Thanks for your time

Hi Bob,

For your PC running Windows 10, did you do the "Free" upgrade from Windows 7/8/8.1? Did you buy a PC with Windows 10 on it, or build one with a fresh install of Windows 10? If you "Upgraded", did you perform a "Fresh Re-Install"? Our Doctor Zen has a couple of great videos he did concerning the upgrade, and one on doing a "Clean Install" after the upgrade (Preferred). It sounds like you did the "Free Upgrade", so you may be experiencing the problems everyone else was having, including myself, with the upgrade. Clean install straightened everything up!
Another thing to check, is if you did do the upgrade, and already had the "Icons" for the programs on your Taskbar, they may have become corrupted during the upgrade. Best thing to do is "remove" them (basically, right click on them and choose to "Unpin from taskbar"). I had the same issue with using a few different programs, and that helped out as well. My recommendation would be to follow the Doc's advice on setting the program to "Run as Administrator" on the main Desktop Icon, then choose that icon (right click and choose "Pin to Taskbar"). You can do the same from the Start Menu, though a lot of programs/applications tend to only have "Pin to Start". You can do it again with most of them after that to "Pin to Taskbar". Love having the Windows "Command" program available on the taskbar, and what a pain to get it there and set as "Run as Administrator"!

Again, if you upgraded your PC/Rig to Windows 10 and have not done a "Clean Install", check out Derek's video tutorial. Just purchase a cheap USB 2.0 (better compatibility - works fine in USB 3.0 slots too) of at least 8 GB, do a Google/Yahoo/Bing search for "Windows Media Creation Tool" (sorry, won't paste a link here out of respect to Derek and our forum for a program to ensure no "Bad JuJu" happens!), and you can download the version of Windows 10 you currently have the Digital License for (Home or Pro - 32 or 64 Bit) in the Language you need. Just make sure you don't have other USB drives attached to your computer with data (including those Western Digital or Seagate Back-up drives) to ensure you don't "accidentally" erase "Precious" data  And before you even start the upgrade...BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck!

Hello Mike and thank you for your reply. Yes I did upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and like many people this caused a few problems which I sorted eventually. I have seen Doctor Zen's videos but I decided not to do a clean install; I guess this is an option I can do in the future if necessary. For consistency I have set all three programs to "Run as Administrator". This means I get the IAC come up for me to click 'Yes' and then the program launches and all is fine. This is not really a problem as I guess, once opened, I will be using the program for an hour or so.
Thanks once again

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the update. The "pop-up" that you receive sounds like it is from the User Account Controls messaging. To turn that off in Windows 10:

1. Press the "Windows" key on your keyboard (most modern day keyboards have that key between the left side "Ctrl" and "Alt" keys.
2. You can either type "UAC" and press enter, or you can type out the complete wording "User Account Control"
3. Adjust the "slider" to where you want it. The slider goes from "Always Notify" to "Never Notify", with a couple of adjustments in between. The level of notification is up to you. I always set mine to "Never Notify", as I typically only run software that I have purchased, or knowingly download.

If that doesn't work, you can find the "User Account Control" within the "Control Panel" settings. Same settings, just a different way to access UAC.

Good Luck,

Mike
