I want to buy a book or dvd giving basic lessons in colouring/grading footage and explaining all the tools. As well as vegas i have magic bullet looks. Can anyone suggest a book

I don't know of any such thing in existence.

I did create a beginners guide tutorial about Colour Correction a few years ago here:

"The Art and Technique of Digital Color Correction" by Steve Hullfish (pub: Focal Press) is generally recognized as the "bible" of colour correction. Although it makes no use of or mention of Vegas as such, much of what is said can easily be applied within or translated to this NLE system.
