Solved Project loads too slowly in Vegas Pro 14

I have Pro 14; my computer has 64 gigs. My project takes forever to load when I open the program.
My project has 70 video tracks and 1 audio track. I will be adding more video clips. All clips are .mp4 except for 2-3 that are .mov and there is 1 .vob which contains material that was originally on 8 or 16 millimeter and was transferred to DVD. I tried converting the .vob to .mp4, but was not able to drop it into the timeline for some reason.
How can I speed up load time? What have I done wrong?
Would selective pre-render help? Not clear on the purpose of this tool.

Thank you so much for any replies.

Hi Nashville

If you do actually live in Nashville, it looks like a beautiful part of the world to live in !

My guess is that either the .mov or .vob videos are causing the problem or a 3rd party video effect you may have added ?
If you are trying to load the .vob files directly from a disc - don't do that !
You need to import the .vob files from the disc onto your computer first and then eject the disc.

Use a process of elimination to find the cause of problem.

Step 1
Make sure you are using the final build version released for VP14.
Build #270 was final build version released.
www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-14-update-7-build-270--107103/

Step 2
Save a Copy of your Project File with different "test-1" name.
Remove the .mov videos and re-save.
Close Vegas, reopen Vegas and then open Test Version without .mov - does it load faster now ?
If it does, you know the .mov's are causing problem.

Step 3
Save a 2ND Copy of your Project File with different "test-2" name.
Remove the .vob videos and re-save.
Close Vegas, reopen Vegas and then open Test Version without .vob - does it load faster now ?
If it does, you know the .vob's are causing problem.

Step 4
Save a 3RD Copy of your Project File with different "test-3" name.
Remove the .mov and .vob videos and re-save.
Close Vegas, reopen Vegas and then open Test Version without .mov and .vob - does it load faster now ?
If it does, you know the .mov and .vob's are causing problem.

Step 5
Whatever the results of your tests show, you probably need to transcode both the .mov and .vob files into a different format before importing into Vegas.
I don't know what video converter programs you are using, so let's try using Vegas Pro 14 to convert your .mov and .vob files.
Create a new project for each video that need converting.
Render them to Sony XAVC Intra - XAVC Intra is a very good format to edit with in Vegas.
Make sure to select one of the templates that MATCHES the Frame Rate of original source videos.
Do the same for each video and then import the NEW VERSIONS into your Master Project.

Final tip.
Sometimes when working with BIG projects, the Vegas Temporary Files Cache can become corrupt and cause weird problems.
It might be worth resetting Vegas, which will clean the Cache for you.

Thank you. I will try all this and see if things improve.
And yes, we do live about 30 min. north of Nashville. It is real pretty around here, but getting very crowded. We've had 85-100 people a day moving here for several years now. Have you been to visit here? We would love to visit your part of the world.

I have never been to the USA.
I subscribed to a new YouTube channel the other day, and this guy literally lives in "a cabin in the woods", on the outskirts of Nashville.
I want to live in his house !!!

Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOO much! Your suggestion worked--the problem was the .vob which I rendered with SONY Intra and now the project loads in seconds! Saves tons of time!

I have 2 more questions:
Is there a way to copy multiple key frames from one Vegas project clip into another Vegas project? I can copy and paste and then Paste Event Attributes and that will copy some attributes, i.e. the mask will copy perfectly but the track motion key frames do not copy at all. Is there a way around this?

Also:
Is there a way to digitize or render old videos from the 1950's to 1970's to clear them up so that when I enlarge them to full screen they are not distorted?

Hi Nashville
If you do start a new thread on this one can you clarify the source media, and what you resolution/screen size you want to enlarge to. VHS and Betamax didn't come into play until the mid 70's and earlier VCR tape format only from around '72. Tape was available from around 1960, but really only for industry and specialised use. Alternatively are you looking to convert from film - 8mm? super 8?, 16mm? With respect to "full screen" enlargement are you thinking Standard definition?, HD?, 4K?, what screen size (inches/centimetres) are you aiming for?. Just be aware that older media are pretty low resolution by today's standards so there is a limit to what can be achieved for contemporary delivery systems.
cheers, Robbie

I must still be more of a newbie than an "initiate" (not clear on what this means!). I see how this works now--I will start a new thread. I apologize and thank you all, 'specially Dr. Zen!
