Solved Vegas Pro: After rendering video, it crashes after a while when I try to play it.

Hello Derek,
I'd like to know why the video that I play on a media player crashes after completion of it's rendering.  This seems to happen after I do so from either Vegas Pro as well as Movie Studio 17.   I've attached the render settings and project properties for both Vegas Pro and Movie Studio below.  Thanks.

How large are your rendered mp4 files and which Media Players have you tried to play them on?

It renders out to about between 9-11 G's on average and I usually use VLC when I play videos including those rendered from Vegas Pro or Movie Studio but neither of those should be an issue because they haven't been before.

First step is to determine if it's a Vegas problem or VLC problem.  Try playing in other players such as Windows Films & TV or MPC-HC.

Thanks for answering again.

It has nothing to do with any media player.  I tired playing it on Windows Media Player and the same thing happens, it crashes.  I'm wondering if it has anything to do with a "corrupt file."  I believe Derek has mentioned that to me before some time ago.  I wonder what he thinks about this...

Okay, that pins it down to your rendered files.  Provided you haven't customised the render templates your rendered files should not cause problems.

Let's have a look at the Media Info on one of your files. A tutorial from Dr Zen here
www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/other-software/how-to-use-mediainfo-app

Another thought - sometimes when rendering mp4 I find the render sits at 100% for many seconds before finalising.  If you close the render box before the finalisation you may get a corrupt file.

Hi keithd16

Sorry for the delay in replying to your message.
I was out of action for many days (experiencing extreme pain), due to a health problem I am waiting to get fixed with surgery.

Thanks to Eric for offering some suggestions.

It's been many. many years since I have heard of someone not being able to play back videos on their computer.
The fact that both Vegas Pro and Vegas Movie Studio is producing the exact same problem, would indicate you have a problem with Windows on your computer OR your render settings have been set to extreme levels.

Thanks for supplying the screen shots.
The render templates you have selected, normally produce stable video.

What is the total length in time for your project ?

Did you user Custom Render Settings ?
If you pressed the Customize Template button and set extremely HIGH Bit Rates, that can cause a video to not play back properly.
Extremely high bit rates can cause your computer to lock up, if there is not enough CPU / GPU or RAM available.
The default Bit Rates of 24,000,000 High and 12,000,000 Average, are normally OK.

As Eric has suggested, I would like to see a report on your Video's properties.
Use MediaInfo to do this. I have instructions on how to produce a report here:
www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/other-software/how-to-use-mediainfo-app
If you're using Windows 11, you will need to first select Show More Options when you right-click a video to access the MediaInfo app.
Upload the report in a reply message on the forum.

It is possible that a Windows Update may have done something weird to your computer - it's happened to myself !
Make sure any Windows Updates have been installed.
Make sure to regularly re-boot your computer - some people never re-boot their computer unless forced to.

Open the Windows Settings and select Windows Updates.
Press Check for Updates and install anything that pops up.
Then select Advanced Options and Optional Updates - often you will find extra updates here.
Make sure to also turn on Receive Updates for other Microsoft Products.
Please note my screen shot is from Windows 11 - it may look different in Windows 10.

Cleaning Windows
I also recommend you do a clean up of your Windows System files, in case you have a LARGE amount of Temporary Files clogging up your computer !!!
Install the free version of CCleaner - it is safe to use.
www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download
Scroll to bottom to find button.
Install program.
Open program.

I recommend to NOT use Health Check, Performance Optimizer and Driver Updater !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go to Options and set Home Screen = Custom Clean

What I DO recommend you use is Custom Clean and Registry Cleaner.

If you select to clean ALL your web browsers  and don't want to loose your logins for the main websites you use, you can exempt Cookies for your favourite sites.
Close all browsers. Go to Options / Cookies and select Cookies you want to keep (controls logins).

Now go to CUSTOM CLEAN
Here are the options I have selected on my own computer.
Select what you want to clean.
Press Analyze - this will preview how many GB's of data is about to be cleaned.
I suspect you may find very LARGE amounts of junk files !!!
Press RUN CLEANER.

Now go to REGISTRY and scan for issues.
It will offer to do a backup of the registry, which is a good idea to do.
Clean the Registry.
Re-boot computer.

Let me know how you go !

Regards
Derek

Hey Derek,
Thanks for responding and thanks to Eric again for doing the same.  Sorry to learn of your health issues and hope you get better!

I recently rendered a new copy of my Space 1999 movie edit "Alien Attack: Special Expanded Edition," one on Movie Studio Platinum 17 and one on Vegas Pro 19 and both turned out well, no issues.  In hindsight, I think it may have been just a glitch with those programs that took place if not for the reasons you gave.  I use Windows 10.  Thanks for recommending the CCleaner program, I'll use it.

BTW, I've made some more changes that's improved the edit.  I know you're as big a fan of Space 1999 as I am, so I'll let you know when it's finished.  You're going to love it!

Thanks for reporting back Keith

I may have mentioned this to you before???
Last year I bought Space 1999 - The Complete Series Ultimate Edition (Imprint Collection Special Edition)
It is displayed in the original 4:3 Aspect Ratio and the video quality is absolutely beautiful.
I highly recommend this set for any Space 1999 fan !!!
