Please note that if you are in a SECAM country, you can also use the PAL System. So always choose PAL in Movie Studio settings.

I have Platinum 12. How can I remove video and yet leave the audio intact so that I may substitute a picture(s) in place of the video.

Right-click the video on timeline and go to Group - Remove From.
The Video and Audio will now be un-linked and can be deleted separately.

You can also Import only the Video or Audio when you drag media to the timeline.
Drag Video using a Right-click instead of left-click.
When you release mouse button, select Video only or Audio only.

The quickest way to fix this is to reset the whole program.
Do this:
Turn Movie Studio Off.
Hold down CONTROL and SHIFT keys at the same time AND ALSO AT THE SAME TIME double click program icon on Desktop to Boot program.
Window will pop up.
Select Delete Cache and Yes.
This will restore program to Factory Default Settings.

Just bought platinum 13. After rendering a movie, I have been starting a new project using the movie just rendered, The movie filename, not project filename, does not appear in explorer part of movie studio. For it to be there, I have been closing and reopening movie studio. What is done for the movie filename to be in explorer without closing and reopening movie studio.

Hi there
If you right-click inside of the Explorer window, you can select Refresh which will re-scan the folder and reveal anything new.

maybe you can help me? i have movie studio platinum 13, and im really new to all this movie editing stuff. saw some friends put together clips of videos and set it to music. it looked really neat so i wanted to give it a try. anyway, it's a learning curve, but i suprise myself at the ease with which im getting this down. i have all the clips together and the mp3 music piece all lined up. they sound terrific in the timeline. my mouth is watering because i can't wait to show my friends the humdinger of a video i made. i upload it as an mp4 to my hard drive. when i get done with the waiting i press the button. i gasp in horror as there is no sound! i tried to make a much shorter clip and again it sounded fine in the timeline, but not uploaded as an mp4. i know i must be missing a rediculously simple step. what am i doing wrong?

Hi Reesa
Did you render your video following the instructions in this tutorial ?
https://www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/sony-movie-studio-platinum/516-1080p-video-in-movie-studio-platinum-13
If there is no audio after your rendering the project, that normally means you probably did not set the Audio Project Properties correctly. Open the Project Properties and go to Audio tab. This must be set to Stereo. If you have this set to 5.1 Surround, but rendered to Stereo, there will be no audio. The same thing can happen in reverse.
Regards
Derek

Very nice tutorial! Question: I always used Pinnacle before, but now got Sony 13.0 Platinum (got it on sale) so trying it out now. We make promotional videos for work & stuff & usually want some light background music, the cheesy kind. Does 13.0 have any pre-recorded audio tracks for something like this? Or is the only music possibility something that I have to add myself & have a file for? Thanks.

Hi ande2064
The Platinum version does not come with audio tracks like you are describing.
Movie Studio Suite 13 does come with a large collection of music samples & loops, however these are components you use to create your own music using Acid Music Studio 10, which is one of the extra programs that comes with the Suite.
What I recommend you do instead, is find some other royalty free music from someone who specializes in this.
On the MSZ Forum, one of our members is a musician and makes electronic music you can use.

Great stuff in the tutorial! Thanks for what you do. I'm a new SMSP13 user with a month of use under my belt and still learned several useful things from this guide.

Like most people here I've got one quick question
Is there a way to apply a the same Event Pan/Crop setting to every clip on the track?

I'm making dual GoPro bike ride videos and GoPro splits its files every X minutes (file size limit) so I end up with multiple files/clips imported on each Camera track. In SMSP13 I "split screen" the two camera tracks, each with their own Event Pan/Crop setting (reposition, resize, and mirror one) and it's tedious to go through 5-10 clips on each track repeating the same edits on each clip.

You can create and save your own Custom Preset in the Event Pan/Crop window.
Name your preset at top of window and then press SAVE icon in top right corner. Next time you open Event Pan/Crop, select your Custom Preset and all settings will be applied.

Right, I've done that. But if I have five clips on a track I have to enter Event Pan/Crop five times, select that saved Custom Preset five times, and dismiss the Event Pan/Crop pop-up five times. I'm asking if there's a way to do that process once and have it apply to all five clips on the track. Selecting the five clips and setting a Custom Preset only seems to effect the first clip and not the subsequent four. You can easily do that with Transitions, but I haven't found a way to do it with Event Pan/Crop.

Can you please post this question into the Forum and also upload a screen shot showing how you have set the Event Pan/Crop window. Then I can also upload some screen shots for you.
To effect everything on a the Video Track at once, you need to use the Track Motion Tool instead.
However it all depends on exactly what type of effect you are trying to achieve, as to whether using Track Motion will work.
The Track Motion button is inside track control box.

Yes.
Open your previous project and then re-save it immediately, using a different file name.
Make sure to use the function SAVE AS, so that it does not replace your existing project.
Also save into a new project folder so that it does not get mixed up with other project.

Another technique you can use involves opening TWO instances of Movie Studio at the same time and then you can Copy and Paste sections from Existing Project into New Project.
After you have opened first project, shrink Movie Studio desktop down and then double-click program icon to open second instance.

the video preview preferences, and preferences options near the top of the window. running movie studio 13 by the way. non pro version. id like to enable gpu accelerated video preview, and to give more ram to the video preview. i change the settings to how i like them under the video preview preferences tab, hit apply, then ok. then whenever i close the program, i open the program again to see that none of the settings are changed, and that they all revert back to the way they were

I will assume your are talking about here: Options/Preferences/Video.

Dynamic RAM Preview setting has nothing to do with the Preview Window. This setting is referring to rendering small preview samples direct from the timeline, by dragging out a Loop Region and then pressing Shift + B, which renders an un-compressed video file to make playback smooth for a tiny sample region.

If you are not using this function, it is best to leave it at the default 200MB. If you set it too high, it will actually have the opposite effect to what you are thinking and make the Preview Window go slower.

I don't know what is making your settings not save. I suggest you reset the program first, which will hopefully fix the problem. After the reset, turn the GPU back on and then re-boot program. Did it save now ?
How to reset:
Turn Movie Studio Off.
Hold down CONTROL and SHIFT keys at the same time AND ALSO AT THE SAME TIME double click program icon on Desktop to Boot program. Please note this function will only work by using icons on desktop.
Window will pop up.
Select Delete Cache and Yes.
This will restore program to Factory Default Settings.

I do not have any tutorials on this topic. Sony Software actually did a webinar about this topic a few years ago and uses your camera. For some reason they have removed all the webinars from their website, however I downloaded a copy of this for myself years ago. I am uploading it to my Dropbox account right now. As soon as it is completed, I will send you a link so you can download a copy for yourself. It may take a few hours, because my upload speed is very slow at the moment.
Regards
Derek.
