Despite having created dozens of movies , usually  on an annual basis I am now having problems . When I want to fade out the audio of one clip I use the slider to do so..... no problem sound does indeed fade out. However  when I cross fade the next clip  I lose the fade out!  What am I doing wrong? , there must be a toggle of some sort that is overriding the initial fade. If someone  could take pity on me and in layman's terms explain  what I need to do. Clearly  being a septuagenarian  does have its downsides!!!!!

Not really.  I'm one but won't be in a few months.

Short answer - it happens.  The software is programmed to do that.
Solutions:
  1. Use Track Volume envelope and keyframes
  2. Put the audio clips on separate tracks and fade them how you wish
Solution 2 is easiest and how I do it.
