Video PC will not update was created by BobH

Hi everyone,
My every day PC and my laptop have both update to Windows 10 20H2. I have tried repeatedly but my video PC, running Windows 10 Professional, will not update and is stuck on version 1909. I don't really want to do a clean install as I will then have to reload all my software, so any suggestions please.
Thanks

The same thing happened to me.
Apparently there were background tasks going on before Windows 10 would show that the new update was 100% installed.
After Windows had said the update was complete, it still showed older version.
However, after another 30 minutes, it suddenly updated.

Re-boot your computer and just leave it for half an hour.
If it doesn't show update has installed in Windows Update section, run Windows Update again.
This time just leave it for 30 to 60 minutes and see what happens...

Extra information !
It's the morning in Australia now.

A few months ago I built a new computer.
I installed a new license for Windows 10.
After 4 weeks, something happened with Windows Update.
There was a BAD Windows Update that failed for everyone, a short time ago.
After this event, I couldn't install any new updates - they all failed.
I couldn't believe it, because it was a brand new system.
Anyway, I ended up reinstalling Windows 10 - it was a MASSIVE pain in the #$%^.

A few weeks ago that new update for Windows 10 was released - I'm pretty sure it's the same one you are having problems with.
I thought "here we go again" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As I said in my first reply, that particular Windows update is really slow to actually update.
It looks like it has failed, but is actually doing something in the background.

Hi Derek and thank you for your replies. Computers are great until they throw a wobbly and then as you say they can be a real !!!!!!!.

I have tried several times to install 20H2 but still with no luck. I may have to do a re-install using the media creation tool I guess. My PC is only three years old and was built by PC Specialist. I have Windows 10 Professional that was pre-installed by them and so I do not have a serial number. I think Windows 10 is linked to my machine number in some way. There is no point in doing a reset as this will only re-install an older version of Windows 10. I guess the media creation tool will use the latest Windows version, but then I will have to re-install all my application software which I really do not wish to do.

I'll give the update 20H2 another go later today and try what you suggest. Am I right in saying now that the latest update is 21H1 since May?

Thanks again

Yes 21H1 is latest update.

It sounds like you are going to have to do exactly what I did and do a full clean re-install of Windows 10.
I know it's a pain to do this, however you will be able to download the very latest build version from Microsoft.
I must admit that since doing this, my computer seems to be running faster and snappier.

3 years is a long time for a computer.
Clean re-installs always fix lots of niggling problems, because none of the crap from the past has a chance of hanging around and causing problems.
Just make sure to do a FULL backup of any data that is on your C-Drive, before you start.
And when you run the installer, make sure to delete ALL partitions on the C-Drive that relate to the old install of Windows 10.
If you need any help, I do have this tutorial.
It is a little out of date, but the core information is still solid.,

The new Windows 10 installer is a lot better than older version!!!

Hello again Derek,
Thank you for your time and advice. I have tried to update again without success, so I am leaving it now as I really do not want to have to reinstall my software at this time. If it shows problems later on then I may have to do just that. This PC is just for video editing as I have another PC for all my general work that has updated to 20H2, so I will see how thing go. As my video machine is now over three years old in the near future I may get a new PC. I will see how thing go for now.

Thanks again for your time and help.
