This is quite a simple tutorial in which I show you how to convert AVCHD Video files into smaller MPEG2 Standard Defintion files using Media Converter 7 by Arcsoft.

There are literally hundreds of Video and Audio Converter programs available to use - some of them free and some you have to pay for. I have lost count of how many different media converters I have tested over the last couple of years. One thing is for sure, many of the programs do not live up to the hype on their websites. Basically there are not many media converters that convert video accurately, being able to maintain the correct frame rate and video/audio sync.

Six months ago I got a recommendation to try Media Converter 7 by Arcsoft. I can safely say that it does a really good job at converting a large number of Video Codecs into many different Output types for a significant amount of Media Devices. I specifically use this program to convert the AVCHD Video from my HD Camera into small Standard Definition MPEG2 video files, ready for Proxy Video Editing.

IMPORTANT UPDATE October 2014 - please read !

Media Converter by Arcsoft is no longer available. Arcsoft has withdrawn this product from service.

There are many different Media Converter software programs available. A free one that works very well is Any Video Converter.
