The instructions below will show you how to reset your Magix License Keys for any Magix Software era program, like Vegas Pro, Vegas Movie Studio Platinum, Sound Forge, Acid Pro, Music Maker, etc...

Please note that the following instructions will only work for versions of Vegas Pro, Vegas Movie Studio Platinum and Sound Forge, that were sold by Magix Software or Sony Creative Software. Earlier this year in 2026, Boris FX bought Vegas Pro, Sound Forge and Acid Pro from Magix and has now released new "Boris FX" versions of these three programs. To manage your license keys for the newer Boris FX versions, you will have to use the Boris FX Hub app.

How many activations are allowed for Magix programs?

Magix Software license keys allow for up to 2 activations. Typically you might have Vegas Pro (for example) installed on your desktop computer and also have a copy on your laptop computer. This would mean you have used up two activations for your Vegas Pro license key.

How do I activate my Magix license key on a new third computer?

If you want to activate a Magix program like Vegas Pro (for example) on a third computer, you will first have to de-activate one of your License Key Activations, because you can only use your License Keys twice.

Another scenario where you will discover that your License Key Activations are "maxed out", is if you had to re-install Windows on your computer and also re-install all your favourite programs. When you do a clean re-install of Windows, any existing license key activations will still exist on the Magix servers. They do not simply disappear, because you had to re-install Windows. Once again, you will have to deactivate your license keys inside of your Magix account manually, before you can re-activate on a new system.

How do I De-activate my Magix Software license key?

There are two ways you can de-activate a license key for most Magix era programs:

  1. Inside the program
  2. Inside your Magix account (most popular method)

1. De-activating license key inside the program

This option is only available in some Magix programs and you will also have to make sure your computer is online.
For most people, I would recommend option #2 as the best method for managing your license key activations!

Here is an example in Vegas Pro 22:
Open the program, go to Help in the top menu and press Deactivate the Software on this PC.

2. How to Deactivate a license key inside your Magix Software account

This method will work for any Magix era program and also for much older Sony Vegas era programs, because Magix took over the management of many older Sony Creative Software programs when they bought products like Vegas Pro and Vegas Movie Studio.
