Zen Tip #8: Saving Different Versions of Your Projects in Sony Vegas

This is a great tip. I also use progressive 'save as'. I often carry it a bit further. I include major steps along with the incremental save versions, such as.....

Matrix-01.veg
Matrix-02-SoundEffect-01.veg
Matrix-03-SlowMotion-01.veg
Matrix-03-SlowMotion-02.veg
Matrix-04-Titles-01.veg
Matrix-05-Music-01.veg
Matrix-06-Intro-03veg-01.veg

......and, so on. It's not uncommon for me to have 30-40 progressive saves on a short project. The last example is pulling a project into a project, where I have a separate project with the Introduction named Intro-03.veg and embed that into the Matrix project. I spend a few seconds in the project name describing the major changes, in the event I have several projects going on at the same time, it helps my feeble brain recall steps, after I have been away from a project for a period of time.
