Just to conclude this thread, it now is apparent that the new Catalyst Browse and Catalysty Prepare are the definitive products from Sony to allow XAVC files to be transcoded to other formats for all the popular NLEs. The former software gives a taster to what 'Prepare' gives you for a price(!) 'Browse' will only transcode files individually which makes anything more than a few video files a right pain! 'Prepare' does the job in batches so I guess most users will bite the bullet and dig deep for Catalyst Prepare.
