How to make a Basic DVD using Vegas Movie Studio & DVD Architect Studio (Part 1)

In this Two Part tutorial I will show you how to Create a Basic DVD using Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 and DVD Architect Studio.

There are many intial settings and preferences that need to be set correctly, if this is the first time you have used DVD Architect Studio 5.0. In most cases this only has to be done once, and from then on you need not worry about the back end settings.

DVD Architect Studio 5.0 may seem overwhelming in the beginning, but if you take it slowly and start with some basic projects, you will get the hang of it quickly. It is actually a very powerful program once you understand where all the important settings are located and how to customize them.

A very BIG TIP I will give you, is to go out and buy a small box of DVD-RW (Re-Writable Discs) to use as "practise discs". You can preview your DVD Menus in the program to see if they work properly, but once you actually burn the disc, it is not un-common to discover a small error on your behalf that needs tweeking. Therefore using Re-Writable Discs to practice with, can save a lot of wastage and money. Once you have the DVD working 100% correctly, then you can burn to a permanent disc like a DVD-R.

I did know about the loop region so that was not the issue, the box was not checked, and was greyed out because there were no loop regions.

I originally tried to burn the DVD through DVD Architect, but it failed there, too. I was in an endless error loop "bitrate too low", I folloe the instructions and then it says "bitrate too high" and no matter what I chose it either responded too low or too high.

I tried another approach through Vegas to DVD Architect and it seemed to work, but then it would not import the audio file.

I am in the process of trying the other method so we will see how it works.

  I just realized I read your question incorrectly after posting a new article.
  My suggestion is that you DON'T try to burn discs straight from Vegas unless you have DVD-RW's to test with.
  Secondly, read the article I have posted and then try Importing your .m2ts file directly into DVD Architect Studio - that way you can preview it.

I ran through this tutorial (parts 1&2), but when I follow the steps via Sony Vegas and click make video, then dvd it immediately starts burning and only puts 989kb of files on the disk, a tiny blip of video, and never offers me any choices before it starts burning.

Since I don't have dvd RW disks yet I don't want to try again since I already wasted 2 disks.

The video I am trying to burn I already made a m2t file of, but I am trying to burn it straight from Vegas, not using that file.

Any suggestions?

  Hi there
  There are a couple of different things to look at.
  
  #1 If Vegas is not rendering the full length of your project, then you probably have "Render Loop Region Only" turned on by accident - very easy to do for a new user. Type "loop" into the Search Box to find a tutorial that will show you how to easily fix this.
  
  #2 Since making the two part tutorial you have just watched, I have been teaching people a slightly different method & workflow for making a DVD. It's a better method to use if something goes wrong, because you don't have to re-do ALL your work. To make things nice and clear for you, I will upload some screen shots showing the "newer" method in my Doctor Zen FAQ section. I am working on the article right now for you and will let you know as soon as it has been uploaded - should be in the next hour.
