In this tutorial I will show you how to apply Magic Bullet Quicklooks to your video using Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12 Suite or Imagination Studio 4.

Versions that include Quicklooks

There are two versions of Movie Studio Platinum 12 that come with some bonus plugins and effects that are not available in the standard version. Those versions include Movie Studio Platinum 12 Suite and Imagination Studio 4. Both of these software packages include Magic Bullet Quicklooks, which has over a 100 Colour Presets you can apply in a matter of seconds to your videos to create a particular mood and look.

Installation

Make sure you have installed the Magic Bullet Quicklooks program before you boot up Movie Studio Platinum 12.

Extras like Quicklooks and NewBlueFx are installed separately to the main program. If you bought a hard copy boxed version of Movie Studio Platinum 12 Suite or Imagination Studio 4, then all your extras will be found on the 2nd installation disc.

If you bought a downloadable version direct through Sony Creative Software, then log onto your account and look up your order for download links. Click here for further instructions if you are unsure what to do.

Applying Quicklooks

Go to the Video Fx tab and look for Magic Bullet Quicklooks.

Select it and drag the only Default Template down onto your video in the timeline.

Press Apply Look inside the Fx window and the Quicklooks program will then activate.

Now you can browse through all the looks and find the one that will create the right mood and look for your project. Select OK in the bottom right corner and then you will be sent back to Movie Studio and see the effect applied to the video.

For more detailed instructions, please watch the video tutorial below.

Don't Own Movie Studio Platinum 12 Suite and would like to use Magic Bullet Quicklooks ?

For anyone who does not own a copy of Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12 Suite or Imagination Studio 4, you can buy Magic Bullet Quicklooks directly from Red Giant software.

It's a shame you didn't tell people how to use Quicklooks properly.

It's not just click and choose your look... there is a strength slider RIGHT NEXT to the OK button, which you didn't mention; currently set to 100%.

You can use this to dial the looks down, as they're all far too strong to be used directly. You can then combine them, maybe 20% of one with a touch of 15% of another.

MILLIONS of possibilities, not just the hundred or so that are supplied.

    HI,

I've got the movie studio 12 platinum suite (def the suite) but no magic bullets have installed. How can I fix this? I've searched the installation disc and there is nothing with "magic" in.

    Thanks,
    DAve

Do you have ONE or TWO installation discs ?
You should have received TWO discs.
All the bonus features including Music Files are on the 2nd disc.

If you did not receive TWO discs, then it means you probably bought the program from a non-official unreputable source who is selling non-official versions that were not meant for sale. There are scammers on eBay selling the OEM version which is normally included with the sale of a camera or computer. This is a one disc non-retail version and does not include bonus features.

Where did you buy the program from ?
Please supply direct link to page you bought it from if you can.

      Regards
      Derek.

Ah that will be it then. Got it from eBay in a single disc cardboard sleeve for £23. Is there a cheap way to get the magic bullets?

With every new version of Movie Studio Suite, Sony partners with other companies and includes special bonus features like Magic Bullet Quicklooks. This IS the cheapest way of accessing this program. There is no other way to buy it cheap.

The stand alone version bought through Red Giant Software isn't even compatible with Movie Studio.

If you really want this, you will have to buy a legit version of Movie Studio through Amazon.

    Hey Derek,

In my copy I have the Magic Bullet category in the FX menu but the only option is "Default" I have already tried installing it several times and I'm not sure what to do.

    Any advice?

    Thanks

      Hi Shawn
If you watch the video tutorial at the bottom of this article, it shows how to use this plugin.
You haven't done anything wrong - Default is all there is. You must drag Default onto your video first and then press Apply. This then takes you to a new screen with all the templates.

Hello Derek, I recently purchased movie studio platinum suite 12 and I think im over my head! :). All I wanted to do was make a regular youtube video about 10min long and add maybe text, subtitles, and credits at the end. I also wanted to know if it is possible to take a URL off of youtube and it to movie studio platinum suite so that the clip would play before I actually appear? I enjoy your tuturials and I hope to hear from you soon.

    Best,

    Michelle

      Hi Michelle
Don't get too overwhelmed with the program. Everybody goes through this stage. Just start with very simple things and build on that. Eventually you will experience an "a ha" moment and it will become a joy to use.
Please check out the side menu. I have created a list of tutorials "Basic for New Users" that will teach you everything you want to know.
I think you may have made some typos in your message, because I am having trouble understanding your question "is possible to take a URL off of youtube and it to movie studio platinum suite so that the clip would play before I actually appear?"
Can you please re-explain this more precisely.
      Derek.

HAHA my apologies Derek, I am typing from a "smart phone". What I was attempting to ask was, Is it possible to use a clip from youtube and add that clip to movie studio platinum suite 12 as a web address? My company has a youtube clip that I would like to add to my video editing, but since it is not downloadable content, I am not sure if I can add it to movie studio platinum suite 12.

            Now I am with you.
You cannot use URLs - no program can do that.
However you can download the video using Realplayer, but that video will most likely need converting from Flash Video into .mp4 or .wmv, before you can import it into Movie Studio. I actually do this all the time.
I do have a tutorial showing how to do this, however it is years out of date and useless now. To guard against confusion, I will make a new video tutorial for you and amend my original article. I get asked this question a lot, so it is time to fix it up. Hopefully I can get this done in the next 24-48 hours.

Wow thanks a lot Derek! I look forward to the new tutorial. I found your tutorial on Basic Editing Shortcuts & Transitions to be very helpful and informative. Great work!
