Have you Updated your Vegas Software lately ?

Magix Software is always releasing new build versions of all their software, so it is important to make sure your version is up to date.

Vegas Pro and Vegas Movie Studio Platinum are continually being updated to fix bugs and performance issues and also to add new features. If you actually own a registered copy of Vegas, DVD Architect Studio, Sound Forge Audio Studio, etc.....then you are entitled to download for free any new build versions of the program that may be released during the lifetime of the particular version you own.

How to find which build version of Vegas you have installed ?

To find which exact build version of Vegas, DVD Architect, Sound Forge, etc... you have installed, open your program and go to Help/About.

Where can I find latest updates for Vegas Pro and Vegas Movie Studio Platinum ?

I have created update pages on the Movie Studio Zen website, which I continually keep up to date. Here you will find detailed release notes which explain all the bug fixes and new features added to each new build version of Vegas. The latest updates for Vegas Pro, Vegas Movie Studio and Vegas Movie Studio Platinum are located here.

If you are still using an older "Sony" version of Vegas, you can download the final build version of your program directly from Magix software (the new owners of Vegas software). Go to the Magix download page and enter your Serial number.

Updating Third Party Plug-ins

Most people using Vegas Pro or Vegas Movie Studio Platinum will have some third party plug-ins installed like NewBlueFx or BorixFx. All these pieces of software should also be checked for updates as well.

Just like with Sony Vegas there should be some automatic tools which check this for you, however New Blue especially can experience some big problems especially with older versions of their software. As an example I discovered the the NewBlue "Check for Updates" link in their software was producing a false reading. Basically saying that no updates are available when there actually was. I show how to get around this problem in the video tutorial as well.

So remember to check for updates !

everything was working fine then I had an issue with some apple products, removed and reinstalled them. At first rendering would crash the program. then I did a windows update for my intel card and the computer's sound codec. now sony mp4 (aac codec???) won't render sound. I have movie studio suite 12 and that hasn't happened before. There was some chatter that it might have to do with quicktime...is there an update that I missed? any suggestions?

  Quicktime has nothing to do with rendering video - that is only needed for decoding "some" Apple video formats.
  Which version of Windows are you using ?
  Which build version of Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 12 do you have installed ?
  Open Movie Studio and go to Help/About to find build version.
  
  Since you are using MSP12, I would assume you have been using it on the same computer for many years now. I strongly recommend you do a full reset for the program, which will default all settings back to Factory Settings and it will also clean the Temporary Files Cache. The cache fills up with garbage files, that can sometimes cause strange behaviour. Performing a reset will often fix "out of the blue" problems.

  the last time I contacted sony (years ago) I had build 896
  
  so when I reinstalled the clean version recently from my packaged disc...it never got an automatic update.
  
  I read further and see you've said magix is not supporting upgrades...I'd hate to spend the money to upgrade to 15...and then of course...with everything you've said about 14.
  
  is there any way I can get the latest build for 12?

  If you have a copy of all your serial activation codes, you can register your software with Magix and re-download your software.
  Go to www.magix.com/
  Create a new account with Magix.
  Login to your account.
  Press Product Registration link.
  Check your details and then press Continue Registration.
  Enter Serial number for Movie Studio to register.
  Repeat process for all programs you own.
  
  Then go back to your account and select My Products
  Here you will find Installation program links, which will download the software for you.
  Build #1184 was the final build version released for v12 - they added some new features to the final build.

  was able to download, but it didn't fix the problem. later when I have time will do a clean uninstall/reinstall.

  Checking for the latest program updates in Vegas Movie Studio 14 Platinum has been a mess since this version arrived. If you go to Help/Check for News, that is meant to tell us, but I really don't know if it works properly at all, because I always install new updates before they get the "News" window updated.
  
  Instead, I have been continually monitoring the official Vegas Forums.

  I checked it, I'm running 148. Another viewer said to try shutting off the GPU acceleration. I did so and the render completed, using .wmv. I don't know what to think now. The card I have is Nvidia, GeForce GTX 550T with 1024 of memory onboard.

  All of the conversation so far has only been about updating the software, so I don't know what GPU acceleration has to do with that ?

  The update was in order to try to help stop a crashing problem I was having. The other user suggested I stop using GPU Accelerations to help eliminate the crash, that;s all. I think I'm current and the crash won't happen if I get away from the .wmv format I was using. Thanks a lot!

  Derek, I went into the updates, found the patch for Bld. 148 from 8/21/17, tried to install it, I got "Vegas is already installed, if you want to re-install, delete it and start over". Does that mean I'm current? It said nothing about patches. Thanks

I amunable toaccess teh sony sight and find any of this information i have pro 12 and it just directs me to what i can buy. I have been using vegas for 12 years and since it has changed to Magix it has gone down hil and i am experiencing bugs I have never had prior Not happy

  The UPDATE function will not work for older versions of Vegas anymore, because a new company now has control and development of ALL older versions has ended. Vegas Pro 12 has not been updated for over 3 years - there are no further updates. If you need to re-download the final build version for Vegas Pro 12, you can do that through this archive:

Should you uninstall previous versions before installing new versions of SCS?

What directory structures do you recommend for ease of use for file management?

  You do NOT have to un-install older versions of any SCS program - it does not cause a conflict.
  I have every version I have ever bought all installed on the same computer.
  You don't have to do anything special for file management - just use the defaults.
  The main thing to do is not move your source files around after you start creating projects. For increased performance during rendering, install 2x Hard Drives in your computer. Use one to store all your original Video files on (Original Video Library) and the 2nd Hard Drive to Output all your projects to (drive where My Documents would live). Creating this configuration means one Hard Drive only has to Read files and the other only has to Write files. This will make sure your Hard Drives are working at maximum speed,
