New PC Build and transferring software was created by BobH

Hi all,
I am about to purchase a new PC for video editing. In brief I have chosen a AMD Ryzen 7 5800X processor and an 8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3060 Ti graphics card. The PC will have Windows 10 Professional installed.

My current PC has Windows 10 Professional but for some reason will not update beyond Windows 1909. If it was fully up to date I would take a system image and use this to install all my software in one go, but this will not be possible.
So my question:

I have MAGIX VEGAS Pro 8 installed as an upgrade from MAGIX VEGAS Pro 7. Will I need to install Pro 7 first or will I be able to install Pro 8 directly?
I have the same issue with Spectral Layers Pro 8 as an upgrade for Spectral Layers Pro 7. I also have lots of other software to install, so any advice would be appreciated.

Finally can you direct me to a link for all my Sony software I have purchased and also all the MAGIX software I have purchased.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Bob

I had the same problem as yourself with Windows 10.
There were some bad Windows 10 updates released which screwed something up in Windows.
The only solution that fixed the problem was to do a Clean Install of Windows 10, then re-install all my programs.

I am assuming you are referring to Vegas Pro 18 and 17 - version 8 and 7 would be from almost 12 years ago or more.

All versions of Vegas Pro and Spectral Layers Pro are standalone programs.
You do not need to re-install older versions first.
Just install the latest version you own.

Please note that you will probably have to de-activate your licenses in your Magix account, before attempting to register them on a new computer.
If you don't do this, Magix will think you already have the programs installed and may block the registration.
www.magix.com/us/support/my-service-center/
Login and go to My Products
Find each program and license key - press Show more details and deactivate.

I also have an AMD Ryzen 5800X and Nvidia RTX 2060.
Ryzen 5800X is an amazing CPU - very fast at transcoding video with Handbrake and Vegas Pro.

Regards
Derek

Hello Derek and once again thank you for your prompt reply. Yes I did mean MAGIX VEGAS Pro 17 and 18, and thank you for your comments and the link you have given.

I have chosen the Ryzen 5800X partly because of your positive comments about this CPU. I originally chose the PCS FrostFlow 200 CPU Cooler, but it has been suggested I might consider an all-in-one CPU Cooler such as the Corsair h100X hydro. What do you have on your system and do you have any comments about this please.

A great site and thank you for all your help.

You definitely need a good cooling solution with Ryzen 5800X, because it does run quite hot compared to other CPUs - this is normal for this chip.
I had a lot of dramas with all in one coolers, but that is a long story.

When I built my computer at the beginning of the year, one of my goals was to have a super quiet computer.
I had used Corsair All in One coolers before, but experienced a problem with the software that runs their coolers on my old PC - I believe the problem was mainly due to the older Corsair models.
The Corsair software kept causing my computer to freeze.
Because of the problem I had experienced, I went with a cooler that doesn't need complex software to run it.
In my computer I have a  be quiet! Pure Loop 280mm AIO Liquid CPU cooler
This is slightly larger, because it uses 140mm fans and creates slightly better cooling than models with 120mm fans.
To control the fans and pump, I use my Asus Suite Motherboard software - I have it set to be quiet when doing normal tasks but ramp up when rendering video.

When you finally get your new computer, let me know and I will share with you my personal settings.
I recommend you install a program called AMD Ryzen Master.
This is the official software that AMD recommends you install - it controls the CPU and allows you to set a profile for best performance.
Don't use Motherboard software to control CPU.
By using the Ryzen Master and some custom settings, I was able to run the 5800X faster, but 10 degrees cooler.

Once again Derek thank you for your quick reply and offer of help.

I live in the UK, although my son and family lives in Sydney, He was a computer wizard so when he was in the UK I could rely on his help. I rely on a firm called PC Specialist and they have built two video editing PCs and two general purpose PCs for me. They know what they are doing and always stress test the PC they build for several days to make sure it is stable and not running too hot. I like the idea of the AMD Ryzen Master software you suggest.

I will let you know about my final build.
Thanks again

Hello Derek,

Well I have made my purchase from PC Specialist in the UK. This is the fifth build they have done for me and the third video editing PC. I have a three year warranty on this so if there are any issues they can sort it out I hope.

I have the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X CPU, ASUS TUF X570-PLUS Motherboard, 8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3060 Ti graphics card and 64GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3000MHz of RAM. On their advice I eventually settled for the Corsair H100X Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler. It should take 3 to 4 weeks before I get the PC.

When I get it there will be some time to install all my software before I can give it a test. I will eventually let you know how it performs.

Thanks again; a great forum Derek, and we all appreciate your help and knowledge.

Hi again Derek,
So I now have my new PC and I will be trying it out over the next few weeks:
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X CPU, 64GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3000MHz (4 x 16GB) Ram, 8GB NVIDEA GEFORCE RTX 3060 Ti Graphics Card. I then opted for the Corsair H100x Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler.
I have reinstalled most of the software to date and have one question please. I have NewBlue FX Titler Pro 5 on my system. On my old PC I had created a number of Project Templates. Is there some way I can transfer these across to my new PC as these are missing on my new PC?

Thanks

Sorry for the delay in replying...
NewBlue stores template and project files in different ways.
If you have been saving NewBlue projects from inside of Titler Pro, you should find them inside of either of these folders below.
Look for My Projects folder inside of NewBlue folder.
On my computer, I have 2 folders in Documents:
1. Documents\NewBlue
2. Documents\NewBlueFX
