Idea Re-branding of SONY, Vegas and Magix products
Hi Derek -
I own a copy of SONY Movie Studio Platinum 13.0. I'm trying to negotiate the byzantine lineage of product branding with regards to these above mentioned editing platforms. Is Movie Studio now defunct? Is Vegas what Movie Studio re-branded as? Is Magix now the current brand? So confused
Also, I always knew you were ahead of your time! [see screenshot]

Posted 21 Apr 2020 17:41 #2 Hi Jonny !!!
Thanks for uploading the screen shot LOL
This is the best message I have received all week.
Way back in September 2016, Sony Creative Software sold most of it's product line to Magix Software in Germany.
Magix is now the owner and developer for all Vegas Pro and Vegas Movie Studio software.
Vegas is developed by Magix in the USA at Madison Wisconsin.
The first Magix versions were: Vegas Pro 14 and Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 14.
Vegas Pro versions are: Vegas Pro, Vegas Pro Edit and Vegas Pro Suite.
Vegas Movie Studio versions are: Vegas Movie Studio, Vegas Movie Studio Platinum and Vegas Movie Studio Suite.
Regards
Derek

Posted 22 Apr 2020 00:29 #3 Thanks, Derek. So my SONY Movie Studio Platinum 13.0 is essentially a Sony VEGAS product before the name change? (before being sold to Magix)?

Posted 22 Apr 2020 07:25 #4 If there is "SONY" on a legit Vegas/Movie Studio product, it came from Sony Creative Software at the time Sony owned the product lines.
SONY Movie Studio Platinum 13.0 is a Sony/SCS product. The last SCS builds were 954/955. MAGIX released a couple of v.13 builds later. They were essentially just MAGIX rebrands after the acquisition of the product lines.
Note also that while MAGIX is the parent company, VEGAS Creative Software is its own entity. When discussing that entity or their software, MAGIX prefers that we write VEGAS (all caps).
