I have never participated in this discussion, because my computer is always online.
There are 2x reasons why Vegas Movie Studio needs to be online, for some of the time.
It must be online when an update is applied, so that the Activation Code is verified - this is just the way Magix does things, to cut down on piracy.
The only other reason I am aware of, is due to Codec Licensing agreements.
There is some kind of online handshake that must occur, to validate/activate the usage of some codecs.
I don't know anything more detailed, than those two reasons.
Maybe vkmast or Eric will be able to explain further, if they see this thread?
