I am finding that a video that has the sharpen Fx applied to it will escalate the amount of pixelation in the replay. Is that just the nature of the sharpening effect?

Sharpening is one of those tools where less is more.
Applying too much sharpening will destroy any video, due to the nature of how it works and the Bit Rate you render your project too.
ℹī¸ Remember to turn everything off at least once a week, including your brain, then sit somewhere quiet and just chill out.
