Incredible - special offers on MS being pushed only 3 weeks ago was created by sargan
Posted 20 Jul 2021 05:47 #1Anybody who upgraded must be pretty annoyed .... now that MS been cancelled.
Obviously, Magix feel they can migrate the enormous installed base to the German program.
I think that unlikely, with the proliferation of free video editors people will migrate away from paid-for software.
The ones that won't are proba
bly already using Vegas Pro.
The following seem to be the best free options
Lightworks
Videopad
DaVinci Resolve
HitFilm Express
Shotcut
Blender
MovieMaker Online
Vimeo Create
VSDC editor
What do other think ?

Posted 20 Jul 2021 10:49 #2Thank you for your message
My thoughts exactly in what you have said.
Thanks for starting the conversation about free alternatives.
I would like to expand the question to include both free and paid Video Editing programs.
The main paid consumer level video editors that I know of are:
Cyberlink Power Director
Corel Video Studio
Pinnacle Studio
Magix Movie Edit Pro / Video Deluxe (but that's been red carded and in the sin bin for now)
Of all the 100's of messages I have been receiving, there is one standout mention above ALL others!
DaVinci Resolve
If other forum members read this post, I am very, very interested in what people would recommend as alternatives ?

Posted 20 Jul 2021 14:00 #3As for us consumers I'll continue using VMS17 as long as I can.
I've tried Magix Movie Edit pro a couple of times. It has good points but also bad points for me. The major one (unless it's recently changed) is no Media pane for media management within the programme. Plus I'm wary of Magix and the way they behave.
Corel Video Studio I didn't find user friendly
Cyberlink Power Director had its good points but in areas that matter to me was deficient
Pinnacle Studio is popular with my real life video friends. Unfortunately Corel (its owners) do not provide a trial download. Recently I found a trial download tucked away on a Pinnacle Studio webpage but it was for a version of a few years ago. I wasn't impressed with it but looking at the manual for the latest version it looks as though it has improved. I just wish there was a trial available. Corel are possibly missing out by not providing this. I'm not prepared to purchase then have to get a refund if I don't like it.

Posted 20 Jul 2021 14:14 #4That's the problem I had for a long time on my old computer. It kept crashing and was a pain to use.Yes, DaVinci Resolve is often recommended. It appears more an alternative to Vegas Pro, not consumer level Vegas Movie Studio. I understand Resolve needs a very grunty pc but I cannot find the minimum specs required on its website.
4 months ago I built a new AMD Ryzen 5800X system and now DaVinci is running perfectly!
I'm glad it wasn't just me. This is the exact same reason I don't like Magix Movie Edit Pro. The FX control panel is all squished up into a corner and you have to keep using the side slider to reveal one control at a time. Key-Frame timeline also gets jammed into the bottom. It's such an obvious and easy thing to make better.I've tried Magix Movie Edit pro a couple of times. It has good points but also bad points for me. The major one (unless it's recently changed) is no Media pane for media management within the programme. Plus I'm wary of Magix and the way they behave.
I had Corel 2018 version which I paid for. However, I was shocked to discover it now won't open in Windows 10.Corel Video Studio I didn't find user friendly
Apparently some update to Windows 10 broke the program and no update was ever released to fix problem.
Because of this, I am not inclined to update to latest version now.

Posted 20 Jul 2021 20:50 #5They use DaVinci Resolve.
The free version is very powerful, but limited to 2.7k not 4k render
To go higher you need to get paid version.
Thet advise its very flexible, intuitive and fast.
Magix may have shot themselves in the foot ... I would not want to buy into a whole new program... especially as Magix could drop that in the future.
Especially as the German program they want you to move to does not feature in any of the top 10 or top 20 editors list.
VMS certainly did.
