Solved Windows 11 Decision Time
Hello everyone,
I'm rapidly heading towards the demise of Windows 10 on my PC having used Vegas Movie Studio Platinum in various releases finally ending with vrs 17 build 223.
I have considered:
> setting up a dual booted PC with both Windows 10 and 11, but have read that this could be insecure and risky
> keeping my PC off my LAN, which wastes the use of its other features
> migrating to Vegas Pro, but I'm trying to keep costs down to a minimum
> "Biting the Bullet" upgrade to Windows 11 instructing the Windows upgrade feature to retain my Apps and Files.
So I would appreciate your advice please.
Thanks, Steve.

Hi Steve
If you are using an older computer (older computer hardware), I would not recommend upgrading to Windows 11, but keep using Windows 10 until the end of your computer's natural life. Windows 11 works best on modern computer hardware.
Apparently less than 30% of the planet is on Windows 11, with the most still being on Windows 10.
Be aware that the biggest potential problem with installing Windows 11 on older computer hardware, is possible Driver incompatibility problems.
Example: Webcams (many older webcams will never work on Windows 11).
However, that being said, most older hardware now has Windows 11 drivers available - example: Printers.
I 100% do not recommend upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11 on an older computer, using the upgrade function.
If you want to use Windows 11 on an existing machine that uses Windows 10 now, it is infinitely superior to do a Clean Install of Windows 11.
The problem with doing an automatic upgrade from W10 to W11, is too much crap is left behind from the Windows 10 installation, which will pollute your Windows 11 experience and more than likely cause weird behaviour, bugs/crashes and possible slowness. I speak from experience on this point.
The only way to install Windows 11 is to do a clean install, then reinstall all your programs - it takes a while, but is worth it 100%.
It was only 5 weeks ago that I had to reinstall Windows 11 on my own computer, after something became corrupted.
Since reinstalling W11, everything is good as gold.
I also own many older programs from Windows 7 and older days.
The good thing about Windows 11, is that it seems to handle old programs quite well.
In a perfect world, I recommend Windows 11 for newer computers only - built in last 4 years.
In regards to VEGAS Movie Studio Platinum, that program works on Windows 11, but probably suits older computer hardware.
Whereas VEGAS Pro 22 (just released) works best with W11 and the latest computer hardware, but if you try to use VEGAS Pro on older computer hardware, it will not perform as good as it can.
I highly recommend at least a mid-range Nvidia Graphics Card if you get VEGAS Pro in the future.
I hope this helps a little. The questions you have asked, are being asked more and more each day.
Regards
Derek

Hi Derek,
Hope this finds you in good health.
Thank you for your words of wisdom, which is much appreciated and has prompted me to continue with Windows and Movie Studio Platinum vrs 17. In truth I just felt I couldn't take on another steep learning curve with an alternative video editor.
My current PC is a Dell XPS 8930 Intel I7-9700 16gb memory/ Nvidia RTX 2060 so Microsoft has deemed it to be fit for purpose on Windows 11.
Based on your advice I intend to upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Windows 11 Pro via a clean install. On completion then reinstall other programs including MSP17 and other supporting software.
Given summer is coming to an end here the UK this should give me a challenge and keep me occupied through autumn
Thanks again, your website and videos have been a great help to me for over a decade.
Steve.
