Solved Issue with the Help menu in Movie Studio 12 32bits

Bonjour à tous

I got installed on my main computer both Movie Studio 12 32bits and 64bits.
I am usually using the 64 bits one and I am shifting to the 32 one when applying some NewBlue transitions only working under the 32 bits release.

I just discover in my 32 bits release an issue with the HELP menu:
The 3 first options (F1 , Shift F1, and Shortcuts) are not responding (nothing happens when clicking a choice) while the others one (exemple: the tutorial) are working fine.

Regarding the 64bits release, everything works fine.

This issue seems to relate to a missing help file or index as these 3 options are popping up some windows with texts of explanations.
I guess I may have missed something when installing the 32bits release.

Questions: does someone know something which would help me avoiding re-installing both 32 and 64 releases? like adding a help file or other stuff.

The reason why I say "re-installing both 32 and 64" is the following:
I want by clicking on a project file (.vf) to open it in the 64bits release.
I noticed that the project file is automatically associated to the LAST INSTALLED of the 2 releases, and I never found the way to change this.
Consequently I had to installed first le 32bits and second the 64bits one to get the 64 being the "master" of vf
...and re-installing the 32 one will lead (for me) to also re-install the 64...

Thanks for help

Alain

Hi Alain

I have an answer for you, but it may not be what you want.
I don't know how to help you with the Options that are not responding in the 32 bit version.

You need to move away from using the 32 bit version of Movie Studio Platinum on your 64 bit computer.
Just use the 64 bit version from now on and don't try to swap between using the 32 bit and 64 bit. Doing this is bound to cause problems eventually.

New Blue Fx
If you have favourite NewBlueFx Video Effects and Transitions that are only in the 32 bit version, you can buy the full versions direct from NewBlue and they will contain installation files for ALL 32bit and 64bit versions of Movie Studio, Vegas Pro and many other programs. You can also buy individual plugins from NewBlue now for about $30.
Make sure to subscribe to the NewBlueFx Newsletter - then you will be notified of when they have a SALE on. I have just about all the NewBlue products now, and ONLY bought them when they were on sale and a much lower and affordable price.

There is a way to reset Movie Studio without re-installing it.
You can reset the program and clean the cache by doing this.
This may fix your problem.
Do this:
Turn Movie Studio/Vegas Off.
Hold down CONTROL and SHIFT keys at the same time AND ALSO AT THE SAME TIME double click program icon to Boot program.
Window will pop up.
Select Delete Cache and Yes.
This will restore program to Factory Default Settings.

Un-stalling and Re-installing
If you wanted to try, you can actually un-install just the 32bit version of the program. You do NOT have to un-install both, if you want to do a clean install.
Download a fresh copy of the 32 bit version from here:
www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/updates/vegasfamily
You have to search a long way down the page.
Look for Movie Studio Platinum 12 and make sure you select 32bit from DROP DOWN BOX.

Regards
Derek :)

Thanks Derek for your answers.

I have been battling a bit to restore the default settings until I discovered I had to create the shortcut on my desktop from a copy/past-shortcut from the .exe...

Unfortunately, this restore didn't change anything...

...but I finally fixed the issue.

I must recognise, my approach has been far from a scientific one.

Let me make a little summary:
1) In addition to my main computer with release 32 and release 64 of MS12, I have a Sony Vaio Laptop with also MS12 release 32 and 64 AND in addition I kept my old VMS10 (32bits).
2) on this Vaio one ALL help menus are working fine.
3) The folders and files for MS12 32bits and MS12 64bits are identical on both computers and the only difference relating to my purpose is that where VMS10 is installed then MS12/32 works fine.
4) I agree it is much more a quick conclusion than a scientific proof but guess what: I installed VMS10 on my main computer and without touching anything on MS12/32, this one is now working fine!

Probably another big mystery happening in the depth of the Windows registry...

Again, thanks Derek for your answers.
One of the benefits of participating in a forum is that it forces you explaining and structuring your thinking which lead sometime to go "out of the box".

Bonne journée
