A couple of more questions:

What is the real difference between rendering an output video with Main, High, or another profile?
Level 3? Level 4? Level 5.2? What's the difference between these?
What impact on quality do various Reference Frame settings yield?

Thanks!

This is an interesting topic and pretty complex the further you go down the rabbit hole.
A guy on Vimeo made some of the best tutorials on this topic last year and I highly recommend you watch them both. They are not made with Vegas or Movie Studio, however that does not matter. What I have learnt is that Sony's templates are already set to the best values for most situations.
