Also should veg created with vegas pro 12 open with vegas pro 13.? Mine won't it crashes vegas

Vegas doesn't save your audio files within the project any more than it does your video files. So you either need to reinstate your mp3 files to where they were on your HD or tell Vegas where they now are.

As for opening v12 in v13 it could be a plug-in issue. Search here and on the Vegas community forum for other threads.

Yes it does "save the list of sound files as it does sounds recorded with camera".

But Vegas doesn't alter your source files. They are untouched. Your Vegas project veg file contains your edit instructions telling it where to start a music or video file, where to end it, fx to apply etc.

If you move any file on your computer or accidentally delete it after you have created a Vegas project, Vegas will not know where that file is.
When you open your Vegas project file, Vegas will tell you that the file is now missing and will ask if you want to find it or replace it.
I have an FAQ on this topic here:

But I did not move the source files from their original folder. The problem is the when i save a camera sound to veg and later open the veg the camera sound is there with the movie . When the sound is an mp3 and it is edited and saved to veg then later opened the sound is missisg. Vegas points to the original file not the edited one

If the original mp3 file was bought on iTunes many years ago, it may have copy protection encoded with it, which could be blocking something.

Convert the .mp3 file into a .wav file before you import it into your project.
You can use Vegas, Sound Forge or Audacity to do this type of quick conversion.
Once it is converted, any security settings that may be causing a problem will be gone.

It will always point to the original one because as explained earlier your source files are unaltered. There is no edited version of your mp3 file unless you have exported it to a new file. On reopening your project your source file should be loaded and your edit instructions, contained in your veg file, will be applied to give on your timeline the "edited version".
