Black bars displaying all around the videos in DVD Architect
Black bars displaying all around the videos in DVD Architect was created by Brian
Posted 14 Sep 2025 06:11 #17345 I have completed a project in Vegas Pro 22 and am trying to burn a DVD. But the completed DVD plays at 16:9 but not full screen.
The project was prepared in DVD Architect at 16:9 (1920 x 1080). However when selecting file. properties it shows ratio as 16:9 but resolution as 710 x 576. There is no other choice. Yet in other of my projects it is possible to select 1920 x 1080.
Where am I going wrong?
Brian

Posted 14 Sep 2025 14:47 #17346 DVDs only use Standard Definition video - they do not support 1920x1080p HD output.
If you want to create a HD 1920x1080 disc, you need to make a Blu-ray disc instead.
If you're in a PAL country (25fps), the highest resolution for a DVD is 720x576 16:9 Aspect Ratio (widescreen).
If you're in an NTSC country (29.97fps), the highest resolution for a DVD is 720x480 16:9 Aspect Ratio (widescreen).
You can import an HD video into a DVD project, however, DVD Architect is going to re-render the video files down to whatever you set your project properties.

Posted 14 Sep 2025 19:23 #17347 Thanks Derek.
It's just that the 16:9 image does not fill the tv screen but has a big black border all round. Can it be made to fill the tv screen?

Posted 15 Sep 2025 11:02 #17348 How to remove Black Bars in DVD Architect
It's been a long time since I made a disc, but I'm 100% sure I know what is wrong.
It's a pesky little setting in the DVD Architect Preference Settings that causes this problem !
Go to Options / Preferences / Preview
Set Player Aspect Ratio = 16:9
You would think the default should be 4:3, however, when DVD Architect was first released, most people were still using Cathode Ray glass tube TV sets with a 4:3 Aspect Ratio - that was the default for many.
p.s.
I have edited the title of this forum thread to describe the actual problem.

Posted 17 Sep 2025 01:57 #17352 Hi Derek,
Trust you are OK.
The parameters you suggested were already in place. However I remembered that a few montha ago I burned a DVD and this played back full screen. I checked the "File>Properties saw one thing was different. I had burned it at 720 x 480 (NTSC). You're going to tell me that shouldn't work!
So I changed my current project to that spec and wow it came out correct!
Can I please ask you regarding rendering. I have Nvidia GForce 4060 AMD 8 core processor. I attach a screenshot of the render menu. Which do you I advise, please?
Regards, Brian

Posted 17 Sep 2025 08:33 #17353 Please start a new thread next time, if starting a new topic. Thanks.
Not sure why you are asking if I am OK?
If it's because I changed my Username in the last 24 hours, that is not a mistake. I decided to go from DoctorZen to MSZ-Derek.
I am guessing because of your render options, that your AMD CPU also has integrated graphics, which is why you see AMD VCE options.
You should find that Nvidia NVENC options will render the fastest.
AMD VCE should also be reasonably fast.
Options that are not NVENCE or VCE, mean your CPU will do most of the rendering.
CPU rendering is normally the slowest, but can also be the safest most stable option.
On my computer, I mainly use NVENC.
