Rendering Problem in Vegas Pro, caused by latest Nvidia Drivers

Hi everyone, and hoping someone may be able to help.

I have a completed project and I am having an issue when rendering; details here:

VEGAS Pro 21.0 when rendering using the Template 'Internet UHD 2160p 25fps (NVENC). I get the message ' Error 0x80660008 (message missing). I have an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Graphics Card and have not had this issue before. I have just updated the latest Studio Driver.

If I use the Template UHD 2160p 25fps, then all is fine, but it obviously takes a lot longer to render.

All suggestions welcome.

I have found out it is an issue with the latest drivers, so I will download a previous Studio Driver and install that. I will post again afterwards.

Nvidia has screwed a whole heap of older software programs, not just Vegas Pro and Vegas Movie Studio.
Late last year they removed a specific function from all their latest Drivers, which breaks many older programs.
Nvidia has responded by saying they are NOT going to fix this. Nvidia has turned into a disgustingly arrogant company, who only seems to care about AI bullshit now.

The last Nvidia Studio version that works with older versions of Vegas Pro and Vegas Movie Studio is version 581.57.

I recommend all Vegas users who still use older versions of Vegas Pro and Vegas Movie Studio, to only use Studio or Game Ready Drivers #581.57.

If you are using Vegas Pro 23 or the newly released Vegas Pro 2026 by Boris FX, it is OK to install the latest Nvidia Drivers.
Latest versions of Vegas are not affected by these changes, because they have more modern code that is compatible with the changes that Nvidia has made to their drivers.

I downloaded 581.57, installed it and all is fine now. My graphics card is mid-range, but with this I re-rendered my project and it cut the time to well under 50%. I agree, Nvidia has got too large and powerful and does not really care for small fry like me. AI centres have gobbled up most of the memory chips so prices have rocketed in recent times. My wife had an older (2017) Windows 10 PC that could not upgrade, so I bought her a new Windows 11 machine. For her work and research she needed at least 32 GB of memory and the cost was pretty high.

Now my project is finished I plan to look at VEGAS 2016 from BORISFX. If you have any comments I would appreciate those, in particular what is different. For my VEGAS 21.0 I have Title Pro 7 to create my titles. I know BORISFX has a powerful but different system for titles, but this will take time to master.

If you find you never really used all the extra features, you can downgrade in the future.

If you want a keep for life version, there is Vegas Pro or Vegas Pro Plus.
If you don't already have a Boris FX account, create one using the SAME email address you used for buying Vegas Pro with Magix.
Then your old serial numbers should automatically appear in the account.
This makes it easy to buy an upgrade for a keep for life verison of Vegas Pro.

As I am retired and not a content creator, I do not need the subscription offer, so I have bought the VEGAS Pro Plus at a discounted rate. Now I just need to play and look at any new features, in particular, Title Studio and Mocha VEGAS that I have not used before but have seen some videos online.
