Veg file not opening Vegas Pro 16

Resentfuly I had professionally installed Windows 11 from 10. When I open any ".veg" file the following message is displayed:- ( ! An error occurred while loading the project file ....veg. An error occurred reading the file. Make sure you have read access to the file/folder and that it is not corrupted.)  This message shows on the majority of about 15 fies except from one or two!  

Hi dbwow.A few quick questions to help Derek and other members help:

• What Version and build of Vegas Pro are you using?
•  Is there anything unique about the few vegs that do open eg size? Were they created in a different version of Vegas?
•  Where are the vegs stored? Eg internal C: drive? Other drive installed in your PC? External drive:

Some suggestions in the meantime though …First thing I’d suggest is check your Administrator privileges post the OS upgrade. Close Vegas Pro completely, right click on the Vegas Pro icon on your desktop, select Run as Administrator, restart Vegas and then try opening one of the vegs.  If that works, then to permanently change the default settings close Vegas again, right click on the Vegas Pro icon, select Properties and click on the Compatibility tab at the top of the Properties box, check the box next to Run this program as an administrator and then click Apply and then OK.My second thought would be to check folder and drive security permissions as an OS upgrade can sometimes mess these up:

•  In Windows Explorer right click the project where the veg and project files are saved
•  select Properties, select the Security tab, click Edit, click Add
•  type “Everyone” into the object name box, click Check Names and click OK, highlight “everyone” in the group list, check Full Control and click Apply  

Third option would then be to try a program reset:

• close Vegas
•  while holding down both the Ctrl and Shift keys together, double click the Vegas icon
•  when asked to clear all cached data, check the box and click yes.

Finally, if the veg files have somehow been corrupted (although unlikely from an OS Upgrade) you can try the back up files automatically created when you saved the veg.  In the folder where your veg is saved you should find a file with the same name but with the extension .veg.bak.  Make a copy of that file with a new name and delete the .bak part of the extension.  See if that new file will open in Vegas (either double click it in Windows or open it from within Vegas.Cheers, Robbie

Cheers Robbie, What I have identified is that Veg files prior to 2019 open up without this message!! These would have been on Vegas Pro 10!!!   This seems to be the issue!.  Any suggestions to my remark?.

Interesting.  Can you just confirm that the older files are .veg (Vegas Pro) and not .vf (Vegas Movie Studio).Possibly a long shot but perhaps try changing the Vegas’ compatibility mode.

• Right click the Vegas Icon on your desktop
• Select the Compatibility tab
• Under Compatibility mode check the box for Run this program in compatibility mode.  Select Windows 8 in pick list and click OK.
• Open Vegas and see if you are able to open the problem vegs.  If not, maybe try changing compatibility mode to Windows 7 or earlier versions.

EDIT: From Windows explorer can you right click on one of the project folders that include post 2019 veg(s) that don’t open, click Properties and then select the security tab.  If you could post an image of Security tab contents  it would show us if the problem is a result of orphaned User Security IDs from the Windows 11 upgrade.
