Hello,

First i want to make clear that this all about timeline performance not
about render times as i don't mind if would take longer and use my CPU for that.

I read a lot of forums and reading/googling for days and hours before i made the choice
to buy this card as i wanted to upgrade my NVIDIA GTX 670 FTW.

I installed yesterday my Asus R9 290x and i am so disappointed in everything,
First the second monitor preview is Flashing/blinking with "fast lights" in the video
I try'd options: turn on/off GPU acceleration of video-processing, Wait for V-Syn, Apply de-interlace filter,
Use GPU acceleration, it all help a bit but its still there,
it was even worse when in Catalyst the monitor was set to HDTV 1920x1080,
when i changed it to 1680x1050 it was again a bit better.
Thought it was something monitor refreshing but it is all set to 60mhz,
I have no idea what todo anymore.
(btw it's not blinking/flashing in WMP/VLC so only in vegas pro 13)

Second and most likely the worst part is the timeline performance playback,
even the GTX 670 did a better job, its now lagging, stuttering, every few seconds
like it cannot keep up or something, with multiple layers i had problems before
but now it freezes and goes after a few seconds playing, missing parts of the lag.
again try'd above same settings but no effect.

My rig:
ASUS P9X79 Pro Model
ASUS R9 290 X OC
Intel Core i7 3930K Sandy Bridge-E 3.2GHz
32GB G.Skill Ripjaws Z 8×4 GB kit 1600
CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO

I really hope someone can help me and figure just out and not just wasted
350 euros, i hope it is clear all as my English is not perfect.

Hi Sphinx

You are the first person with a Radeon R9 290x Graphics Card that I know of, that is disappointed.
Most people who use a R9 290x with Vegas Pro or Movie Studio are extremely happy.

My guess is that you just have a configuration problem.
I only use an Nvidia Graphics card, so don't have direct experience with this GPU and it's drivers.

The main thing I know that you definitely need to do, is clean the Vegas cache and reset the program.
This will remove any references to your Nvidia Driver and update Vegas to see the new Driver and card properly.
Do this:
Turn Vegas Off.
Hold down CONTROL and SHIFT keys at the same time AND ALSO AT THE SAME TIME double click program icon on Desktop to Boot program.
Window will pop up.
Select Delete Cache and Yes.
This will restore program to Factory Default Settings.

After you do this, hopefully you may see some improvement.

The next thing I suggest you do if you still have a problem, is post your question on the Sony Vegas Pro Forum @ Sony Creative Software. I know there are many R9 290x owners who post on this Forum. They will be able to help you better and faster than what I can here.
Let me know how you go after you speak to the guys on the Vegas Pro forum here.

All the best.

Very important additional information for you Sphinx !

I just did some searching on the Vegas Pro Forum at Sony and found some extremely important information for you.
There are TWO threads I was reading here:

and

Vegas Pro 13 does something weird if you have an Nvidia Driver/GPU and switch to AMD Radeon Driver/GPU.
User Johnny Roy recommends you do this:
You MUST disable GPU Acceleration before you change a video card or drivers. I've run into it as well. I had to re-install old drivers, disable GPU, and then re-install the new drivers. No amount of uninstalling, re-installing, or starting Vegas with SHIFT+CTRL would fix the problem. Only setting the computer back to it's original state and disabling the GPU would make Vegas start again.

So if resetting the program as I first suggested does not work, I would recommend you follow Johnny Roy's advice.
Un-install your Catalyst Drivers and R9 290X Graphics Card
Re-install Nvidia Drivers and old Nvidia Graphics Card
Reset Vegas Pro
Then go to Options/Preferences/Video and turn OFF GPU
Now un-install Nvidia Drivers and Nvidia GPU
Then re-install R9 290x and newest Catalyst Drivers
Reset Vegas Pro one more time and you should be OK.

Thank you very much for the reply's DoctorZen,
yes that was one of reasons i bought this card because on
a lot of forums it sounded like this was the card to buy.

I will try your suggestions tonight, but i am googling now to
at work for an hour, i know the names even by now after days
of reading, OldSmoke/BruceUSA on several forums etc.,
these guys made me go for it (not to blame them offcoursse)
Read about certain drivers to, Catalyst 14.6 i read a lot is the best
as far i finded out, while that would be sad to as that's a year old,
The last driver is even from 2014 and some Beta driver for AMD,
so i geuss the driver support of AMD is not that good to compared
to NVIDIA, they have every month almost a update.

Anyway, i think i go for a fresh windows install tonight,
i know that is insane and unnecessary but maybe a good idea
as i have a lot of stuff on it that i don't use anymore anyway.

If that doesn't help then.....................
