System Locks When Moving Scrub Line Quickly

...well, I haven't found the answer/solution and a bit embarrassed to ask, but it's bugging me.

When I left click and hold on "B" and quickly drag across the timeline, the scrub line moves with this quick movement. If I do the same by grabbing "A" and move it too quickly, the scrub line moves a few frames, then for several seconds my system locks and the mouse pointer disappears.



And, BTW.......what is the inverted chevron at "A" called?!?!?!

The gizmo located on the Ruler is called the Play Head.
How these NLE video editors were designed was all based around an emulation of analog video tape editing machines.

If I am understanding this correctly, when you grab hold of the Play Head, you are forcing Vegas Pro to process all of your project in real time. Which means if you have added any Video FX to the video you are pushing through, your CPU is freaking out and has a brain explosion - that's why your system is locking up.

If you hold down the CTRL key while dragging the Play Head, Vegas should stop locking up on you and behave like the cursor.

When you scrub through the video holding the Timeline Cursor, Vegas Pro stops trying to process everything in real time and is just skipping around lightly.

Thank You Derek, it's amazing how easy it is to find answers when Doctor Zen points them out!!! And, I grew up in a world of tape reels and record/play heads, as well as film reels that contained actual frames of pictures you can view!!!

Ironically, I was using a MOS video clip when this started to annoy me. If I had used an event with audio, that would have been another clue for me to determine what you point out.....the playhead is doing what it actually does...play. The timeline cursor skips along with a video preview.

It does work differently than Studio 13 Platinum, most likely because I have different setting between the two NLE's, or maybe that is just a difference inherent between the two. And, maybe the momentary locking (to some degree) is a part of taxing my old CPU/GPU.

I now feel so enlightened......it may be time for a drink!
