DVD (NTSC) for UK (PAL) viewers. was created by Peter

Hi Derek,

I would like to create a DVD containing views of where we live here in Canada - then send it to my parents over in the UK.
They will only be able to place the DVD into a player and press "Go"!

Taking into account that over here - the video my camera(Panasonic X920)captures is NTSC and their player will be PAL.

Any advice would be gratefully absorbed at this end.

Software: Sony MS Platinum 11.
Regards,

Peter

Hi Peter

I make PAL and NTSC DVDs all the time.
If your parents have a DVD player that was bought in the last 12 years or so, it will be able to play NTSC and PAL video.
All modern flat screen TVs can play both PAL and NTSC video - TVs can detect the signal and automatically adjust.

So I think it should be OK to send them an NTSC DVD.
This way, you will be able to maintain maximum quality.
The biggest problem with DVDs from other countries is not the PAL/NTSC issue - it is the Region Encoding locks.
DVD Architect Studio does not region lock.
DVD Architect Pro allows you set a region code if you want to, but should default to un-locked.

When there use to be a problem, was back in the days of glass tube TVs.
If your parents still have one of these, you will need to render to PAL settings.
In this situation, set your project properties to match the video from your camera (NTSC settings) - just like I taught recently in my new tutorial.
However, when you get to the rendering stage, manually select PAL Settings.

If you want to burn a DVD with no menus, follow this:
How to Burn a DVD or Blu-ray Disc using Sony Movie Studio Platinum

Derek.

Hi Derek,

As per usual - you have the knack of making molehills out of mountains.

So, the only thing that I need to be concerned with is the postage rate between the two countries.
A DVD will be winging its way to the UK with images of how we live with Black flies and Mosquitoes.

Black flies you ask - 2 mm size winged monsters that gradually reduce you ears and any exposed flesh to itchy, bleeding mess.

See the classic animation / song at the link below:

Again many regards,

Peter
