Loss of Media Generator function
Hi Derek,
I use Vegas Studio HD Platinum running on Windows7 Professional with service pack 1 on a HP with an Intel Core i5-240 in a PC with lots of HD space and full memory. But when I use Studio and try to change text in the Media Generator window, it fails to work and all I have is Sample Text and no way to change it, as the window (panel) does not open. Even if I try to do so from the command in the INSERT drop down menu it won't work.
After many attempts I decided to uninstall and reinstall in case there was a corrupt file, I did this twice but it made no difference, so I uninstalled again. Checking the installation disk showed that it was clean and unmarked in any way. During the uninstall and reinstall sessions I used regedit to remove all traces of Sony Vegas from the registries to ensure a complete uninstall, but without success as I saw when I reinstalled and tried to use Media Generator.
I then installed it on my laptop (Windows7 Ultimate SP1) and every thing worked okay and although it is a fairly high spec, I don't like laptops for editing as I'm used to two monitors with my PC. To be certain, I uninstalled it on my laptop and reinstalled it on my sons laptop (Windows 7 Home) where it FAILED on the Media Generator function, just as it did on my PC.
I then tried it on my wife's laptop (Windows10) and although it is only a medium spec, everything was fine.
Curiouser & Curiouser
Have you ever come across this before or do you have any suggestions, before I pull out my few remaining hairs.
Many thanks for your superb web site, it is really excellent.

While waiting for the good Doc to come around, you could try a reset.

vkmast has already replied with the first answer I would have given.
You need to reset the program, which deletes the temporary files cache and defaults all settings.
Un-installing and re-installing the program DOES NOT clean the temp files cache most times, so no matter how many times you install/re-install, the problem will not go away until you manually clean this cache.
On rare occasions, the reset trick may not work as well. This normally happens if your Windows user permissions become corrupted and Windows blocks the deletion of temp files in AppData folder.
Go to Options/Preferences/General tab (in Movie Studio)
At the bottom of this window is location of your temp files cache.
Copy this address.
Close Movie Studio.
Open a Windows File Explorer window (like from Documents folder) and Paste this address into address bar.
Now manually delete everything in this folder.
Now boot up Movie Studio and the program will be fully reset and functioning again.
If it still does not fix problem, that would indicate a Windows problem.
Try running Movie Studio as the Administrator.
Close program.
Right-click program shortcut on desktop and select Run as administrator.
You now should have maximum read/write permissions.

Hi Derek, Once again I thank you for your solution to my Media Generator problem and your expertise on all things Vegas which you so generously allow us mere mortals to access. My reply to vkmast is self explanatory but I've also noted your additional note on yet another way to overcome the problem. Again, many thanks.
