May I add a little more to this topic, for anyone else that may land here in the future.
History
RE: Adobe Flash
Flash video has never worked in any version of Vegas.
Adobe Flash player is the scourge of the Internet and was responsible for multiple hacking attacks over many, many years. That's why Adobe Flash always has a new update to install every time you turn your computer on.
Apple boycotted Adobe Flash starting in 2010, under direct instruction from Steve Jobs.

Fast forward to 2016 and Google is proactively trying to kill off Adobe Flash once and for all, which I 100% agree with.
All websites should be using HTML player instead.

If you are using Google Chrome and land on a website that is using Adobe Flash player, where the video should be you will see a warning. If you want to watch that video, you will need to install Adobe Flash player.
There are still huge numbers of websites who use Adobe Flash instead of HTML.
Lazy sites who don't care and dodgy sites, like porn websites is where you will still need Flash player.
Apple Quicktime
Last year people were advised to un-install Quicktime on a Windows machine, because of a possible exploit.
Quicktime is no longer properly supported on Windows.
However, the exploit with Quicktime only affects the player if you play a video that has been hacked and has nasty code attached to it.
So as long as you don't play videos downloaded from the Internet using Quicktime on a Windows machine, you will be safe.
Vegas still needs the codecs that are included with Quicktime, to work with some videos that use Apple formats/codecs.
If you are on Windows 10, the latest version of Quicktime will not work!
This means you will need to install an older version of Quicktime - I recommend version 7.6

I'm on Win 10 and checking my Quicktime it's 7.7.9! Yet it appears to work okay playing both mp4 and mov files. A few months ago I used it with MS13 and some mov files from iPhone without problems. I note it's only 32 bit.

That is interesting Eric
I am using 64 bit Windows 10.
I was an early adopter of Windows 10 and participated in the Beta program, well before Windows 10 was officially released.
Back then, I tried installing the latest version of QT and it would always fail to install - everyone else in the Beta program was reporting the same thing.
I never bothered to try and install it again after that, because I have a habit of flogging dead horses and wasting too much time experimenting.
Because of what you reported, the professor inside of me decided to see if QT 7.7.9 would install correctly now and it did !
Which I can only conclude, must be something to do with an update that occurred to Windows 10 - when that happened, who knows?
I will make sure to update my FAQ articles on this website, about QT 7.7.9
I do still receive private messages from random people, who are complete Vegas newbies, and some people are still having problems installing QT 7.7.9, so I have been advising them to install 7.6 instead and they always report that version does work.
That all being said, Apple does firmly state that they are no longer supporting QT for Windows, so people can use at at their own risk.
As long as people don't try and play videos from the Internet with QT, they should be safe.
Thanks for the new info

Derek

I did notice though, maybe it's how my PC is set up, when I deleted Flash that when I launched VMS it took ages for it to finish opening up and displaying the windows layout. I re-installed Flash and the program is back to normal, so I have disabled Flash in my browser and everything seem to run OK.
Many thanks for all your replies.
