Have you used the Windows Search function outside of Vegas, to try an locate the file "Recital June 2015.MTS" ?
Next to the Windows Start button is the Windows Search function.
Type ""Recital June 2015.MTS" into the search box and see if it can be found.
If the original .MTS source file used a different file name, this searching method will not work!
You can do a broader search on your Hard Drives.
Type only ".mts" into the Windows Search box and sift through the results.
Sometimes it is easier to do a file search in Windows from the File Explore window.
Go to Documents
In the sidebar (left), select This PC
Then select the Hard Drive you think the .mts video file should be on.
Now go to the top right corner and type .mts into the Search Bar
Every .mts video on the Drive will be listed here - have a close look...
If you think you may have accidentally Deleted the file and you know the actual name of file, you can buy a File Recovery program and do a search for all deleted files.
Warning! If you do this, you may find deleted files on your computer from other users in your family, that would be embarrassed to know what they have deleted. Example: porn.

haddondon wrote: I have copied the file to the HD, as suggested, with the name "C:\Users\Don\Videos\recital June 2015.vf". What puzzles me is that VMS is endeavouring to open "Recital June 2015.vf" but searching for "...... recital June 2015.MTS". Searches of the C drive have resulted in the the message "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly ...." before the completion of the search.
Further to Derek's advice something puzzles me.
Have you copied the mts file and altered the suffix to vf?
A vf file is a Vegas Movie Studio project file and usually small. It does not contain copies of video used in your project.
A mts file is a video file such as a finished movie you may have exported from your MS project.
Your vf project obviously used the mts file as source input media.

Originally, I tried a number of searches using the Windows function, all to no avail, and have redone the searches with your suggestions. All have brought the same results in MS.
Normally, I would not have gone to this length to retrieve a lost DVD. However, I have been asked for a copy of the DVD, mainly for the audio, and thought it not be too difficult to retrieve the file. Unfortunately, it would seem that I have lost it completely, so I will now let the matter rest.
Thank you again and for your advice.
