Solved Selecting advanced options to render causes the programme to freeze.

Hi All, To fill in all the blanks I was told that I had a virus in my computer, bitcoin mining it was. My local computer nerd(son) after removing the virus reinstalled windows 10 as it was damaged/compromised? I don't know if that is relevant or not.   
I'm using movie studio 15, firstly when loading the programme I get a new blue run time error, secondly on opening, the upgrade notice continues to pop up even though I select don't show this notice again.
Now to the main problem, I select make movie/save to my hard drive/select advanced options then nothing happens it remains permanently on the eggtimer.
I have tried re installing the programme. emptied cache et.
I have tried to isolate the problem by putting a few clips on the timeline then trying to render and the advanced options come up as they should, I do a bit more editing and try the advanced options again, all ok, I continue in this fashion adding titles etc. then suddenly for no obvious reason it freezes when selecting advanced options, I then cannot close the programme normally, I have to force the laptop to close. Once this has happened I can never render that project using advanced options.
I have been using this MSI GE62 for several years without a problem.
My brain is fried

This is an extremely important question.
Did your son do a complete "Clean" re-install of Windows 10 or did he only use the Reset this PC option.

A clean install of Windows 10 is the only way to gaurantee that all damage from the virus is removed.
When you do a clean re-install of Windows 10, you actually delete everything that was on the C-Drive.
Then you install Windows 10.

When you use the Reset this PC option, fragments from the old installation can hang around and cause problems to continue.
Resetting does re-install Windows, however it is not good enough if your computer was infected by a virus.

When you do a Clean re-install of Windows, you need to back up ALL of your data files onto another Hard Drive before you begin - typically onto an External Hard Drive.

Please confirm if your son deleted everything from the infected C-Drive and did a clean re-install of Windows.
If this did not happen, you need to do this first.

My son did indeed do a clean install, he said it was a pain in the a...e.
Can I add that movie studio 13 works successfully but 14 and 15 do not as described in the previous post.
I also downloaded ms 15 onto his PC and it worked ok.

I have just built a new computer and installed the latest version of Windows 10.
Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 15 is working 100% OK - no problems opening the Render As window.
I suspect there is something else going on in your computer, which is the cause of this problem.
There is no widespread problem with v15, like you are describing.

GPU Acceleration
Your problem may be related to the type of Graphics Card you have selected.
If your computer is using an Intel CPU with Integrated Graphics, that is a known cause of problems with Vegas on older computers.
Make sure Intel QSV is not turned on and then re-open Vegas.
If you have a dedicated Nvidia or AMD Radeon option, select that instead.

 

Last saved project
I recommend you turn OFF open Last Saved Project.
Open Vegas and go to Options/Preferences/General
Turn OFF Automatically open last saved project on startup

 

NBFX
Your NewBlueFX problem, probably means you have too many different NBFX installed and they are causing a conflict.
Especially if you have Titler Pro Express installed.
To fix your NBFX problem, I recommend you uninstall ALL NBFX.
Then only re-install what you actually use.
Install one FX pack at a time and then stop.
Now open Vegas using the RESET function and see if it works OK.
If it is OK, then install next FX pack and repeat tests.
Using this method you should find which exact NBFX is causing the problem.

Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 15 build verion
Please check that you have the final build version installed, which is build #157.
Open the program and go to Help/About to find build version.
If it is not #157, download from this link and install.

Updates
Make sure you have Updates fully turned on, so that important Microsoft programs that Vegas uses, are up to date.

Windows 10 Security Settings
Windows 10 has some stupid Security Settings, that can often cause problems with some programs.
I recommend turning off the following setting.

Hi Derek,
It was the new blue programmes, some funny things going on there, when I looked in programmes and features to uninstall no new blue showed up, I had to delete them directly from the C drive, when reinstalling new blue titler which came with MS 13 google blocked the download so I left it at that, rather than risking things. I downloaded only NB titler pro express which came with MS14.
Thinking back, when I first downloaded MS14 a few years ago I was disappointed that I had lost the original New Blue Titler, however when I reinstalled MS15 a week or two ago, after windows reset I was able to use both new blue titlers, is that normal have newblue allowed the use of the original in MS15?
I am now have only NB titler pro express, however I am dlighted that I can now use MS15.

There are too many different versions of Titler Pro Express "floating" around.
All I remember from a few years ago, is that if you tried to have more than one version installed at the same time, it would cause massive problems for some people.
I can't explain why some old versions pop up in newer versions of Vegas Movie Studio - it's a nightmare.
At the time all this happened, I was advising most people to NOT install the newest dumbed down versions.
If you were to hypothetically buy and install the very expensive paid version of NewBlue Titler Pro, you would not experience any problems - this is what I use.
Because I use the Pro version, I can't install any of the "Express" versions.

A side note about Google blocking your downloads.
The latest build versions for Google Chrome (which get installed automatically in the background) have introduced new draconian blocking of safe programs.
It has been causing a lot of confusion for many people, because often there is no warning message to explain why the download was blocked.
I recommend when downloading programs, you use FireFox web browser or the new Microsoft Edge browser - programs should download OK if you use these alternatives.
