Posted 07 Feb 2016 03:07 #1 This is my first time using Movie Studio Platinum or any video program. I have the trial version. I am trying to burn family movies to dvd, no menus or anything fancy. Both times I have tried, after the video and audio are done rendering, I get this error message.

Posted 07 Feb 2016 13:56 #2 Hi Turkey03
I did a quick Google search for this error and found a large number of results.
It looks like this type of error has nothing to do with the Movie Studio program, but is more a Windows generated error about your DVD Drive.
I found this on one of the Microsoft Community Forums.
answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/cannot-burn-dvd-get-an-error-code-0xc0aa0301/bd60c540-f3d2-427d-95cc-3837400cf0a6?auth=1
What type of DVD discs are you using ?
Other users from the Microsoft forum, reported that using DVD+R discs is what caused the problem.
Try using DVD-R instead.
If your computer is quite old, it may only support DVD-R for burning discs.
Generally speaking DVD-R is more reliable than DVD+R.
You may also need to update the Firmware for your DVD drive.
Firmware is the software that runs the drive.
Also be aware that DVDs can only hold a certain amount of video, normally 60 to 90 minutes.
If the total time for your project is more than this, you will have to use a more advanced technique for making DVDs.
I will wait to hear back from you before saying anymore.
Regards
Derek

Posted 07 Feb 2016 14:25 #3 Thank you for your reply. I am using DVD-R DL. I checked my drive info and is says that it supports DVD+R and -R. I also tried to update my firmware, but it says that it is already up to date.
I'm confused now, because my dvd now shows that there is video on the disc. But, it plays choppy on my computer and not at all in my tv dvd player.

Posted 07 Feb 2016 14:58 #4 What brand DVDs did you buy ?
Over the years, I have had many people report problems when using cheaper generic brand discs, especially when they are dual layer discs.
Dual layer can be very problematic with some burners.
There are different grades of dyes used and some of the cheaper brands are just completely useless.
My gut feeling is that the DVD is not physically burning properly and the dual layer disc is adding to problems.
What I recommend you do, is buy some DVD-RW discs.
Single layer re-writable discs. I use Verbatim and TDK brands.
Then create a small test project using a video that is less an hour. Just 10 minutes of video would be OK.
Then see if you can burn this to a DVD-RW disc.
The advantage of using DVD-RW is you can use it to do tests over and over again without wasting discs. Once you know it works, then use permanent DVD-R discs.
Always go back to basics when trying to trouble shoot disc creation and just do small test projects before you go back to the real one.
Did you watch and follow my tutorial on this topic ?
It is important that you watch this to rule out other un-related problems.

When people have continuing problems trying to make DVDs, I always recommend that it is better to use DVD Architect as well.
This way you don't have to keep rendering your project over and over again.
You only have to render to project once and then use DVD Architect to burn the discs.
I have a different tutorial for that here:

Posted 07 Feb 2016 15:13 #5 I did follow your tutorial.
I am using Verbatim dl. I read that 2.4x might be better than 8x, but I don't see 2.4x offered anymore.
I will try your suggestion tomorrow. I have burned to single layer before without a problem, but not videos.

Posted 07 Feb 2016 15:21 #6 Burn speed is definitely an area to look at, especially when using Dual Layer discs.
I burn ALL my projects with DVD Architect and normally let the program decide what speed to burn at, which is normally on the slower side.
I have had other people on the forum report that slowing the burn speed down a bit fixed problems.
Things like a bit of dust getting inside the burner can also cause problems.

Posted 08 Feb 2016 05:48 #7 I don't have any RW right now, so I just used a DVD-R disc. I burned a short video to that and it worked just fine. Then I tried burning the same short video to my DL and changed it to the lowest 4x speed and it still gave me the same error message.

Posted 08 Feb 2016 15:11 #8 It sounds like you have discovered your problem.
Obviously the Dual Layer discs are a factor.
It maybe also be a problem with your DVD burner not liking DL discs.
I don't really know what to say after this.
The only thing left to try is buy a different brand of DVD-R DL or DVD+R DL discs and see if they work.
If a different brand/format does not work, then you will know that it is a problem with the actual DVD burner.
If it is the DVD Burner, the only thing left to do is replace your DVD drive.

Posted 09 Feb 2016 23:25 #9 E.g. the free ImgBurn burning software should tell you if your drive can cope with DL discs.
See Tools > Drive > Capabilities.
