Pro 18 Edit - Render repeatedly stalling
Hi Folks,
I'm using the same render settings as for previous projects when I've had no problems. With the current project, rendering repeatedly stalls at 27%. The program crashes and I have to restart my PC.
I have removed the item from the timeline where it stops rendering but this makes no difference. I have also installed the latest build version of Pro 18 Edit from the Magix site in case I have missed an update but the problem persists.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers

The first thing I recommend you try is a full program reset.
This will delete the Temporary Files Cache and also re-scan your FX library.
Reset instructions here:
www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/doctor-zen-faq/how-to-reset-sony-software-to-default-settings#a1
Normally when rendering fails at the same spot every time, it indicates a Video Effect you have added, that is causing the crash.
If the settings in some Video Effects are set too extreme, it can cause a memory overload.
Another thing that can cause problems is your Graphics Card Driver.
Bad Graphics Drivers can definitely cause problems.
Which brand and model of GPU do you use ?
AMD or Nvidia ?
Which Driver version do you have installed ?
If resetting the program does not help, give me info about your Graphics Card and also upload a copy of your .veg Project File.
The .veg project contains no video, but it will show me your project settings - if you've accidentally added something weird, I should be able to find it.
Regards
Derek

Posted 22 Jun 2025 19:01 #17266 Hi Derek,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I posted the same issue on the Vegas Forum and yesterday I worked through six or seven suggested causes.
I hope you're keeping well Derek and thanks again for all you do for us 'numpties'

- Resetting Vegas to clear the cache
- I rendered to the C drive instead of my external D drive.
- I downloaded the latest NVIDIA driver
- I checked to see if the RAM was being exceeded during rendering. It got to 98% a couple of times but when it stopped rendering it was only at 40 or 50%
- I rendered individual items on the timeline with no issue but when I rendered a few together it crashed.
I hope you're keeping well Derek and thanks again for all you do for us 'numpties'

Posted 23 Jun 2025 15:18 #17269 Thanks for posting back with a report.
With the new information you have provided, I'm going to guess that maybe the problem is related to the type of Audio Formats being used in the problem video clips.
It's a complicated issue, but recently Microsoft removed support for AC-3 Dolby Digital audio formats from Windows 11. There is a solution to fix this problem, if that is the cause.
Before Microsoft made this change, VEGAS Pro relied upon the Encoders/Decoders in Windows for processing Dolby Audio formats.
When you have time to spare, the test I would do is this:
Import the problem Video clips as Video files only, without the attached Audio Streams, then try to render them.
If it works without crashing, it's probably the Audio that is causing the problem.
Tip: If you drag a video onto the VEGAS timeline using the Right-click of your Mouse, it will give you options to only import the video stream only.
